Hello!

I bought the DML Sdkfz 251 C (3 in 1) kit purely for the Licence plate decals - which are great!
So, now I don't know which version I should build! Does anyone have an opinion of the best/coolest one?? I'm impartial!!

The choices in the model are:

251-1 - standard halftrack
251-7 - Pioneer version w/ the bridge thing ontop
251-10 - with 3.7 cm PaK gun

Any opinions???

And does anyone have references on the one on the box? (pic below) A 251 combining the 3.7cm gun AND the Bridge?

Thanks for your opinions and time to read this long post!!

I am going to build the 251-7 version.

I don't think the version depicted on the box was very common. I seem to recall someone on here or somewhere else saying it might have been a one off vehicle.

I plan to do mine without the Pak gun.

If you do you will have to add some ammo storage somewhere in there for the 37mm shells.

I love these kits. I am excited about the announced 251 ausf A 3-1 kit as much as people have been about the Tiger kit. I love half tracks.

Steve, do the basic 251/1. It looks reallly cool with the tarp hoops and the cover on the back. The other parts wil come in useful if you decide to do more 251's later. The box version did exist and if you do a search on ML you will find it.

I just bought this a week ago and it looks great.. I think I will be going with the 251/7 the first time just so I can use all the great looking pioniering equipment that comes with it...

And teacher.. can u provide us with a link to that particular information on the bridgelayer with the pak.. I don't seem to be able to find it and would be interested in it as my reference's have nothing on a combo vehicle..

I'm doing the vanilla version with the MG mounted on this C chassis and using the spare /7 bits onto a Tamiya D. now all I need are pics of the 251/7D interior. The Kagero book has exteriors but the innards are pretty bare.

typed too soon, saw this over on ML tonight.

http://www.dragonmodelsusa.com/dmlusa/prodd.asp?pid=DRA6223

dragon announces 251/7 D 3 in 1 !!

So, change of plans...good thing I have not started gluing yet.

Now I'll do the C as a /7 w gun AND a /7D with the squeezebore gun too!

It is good to be a 251 freak these days!

hi steve-o.

i haven't got the 251 3-in-1 kit myself (yet?) but if i were you, i'll build the version that used the most number of parts in the kit.. since you are paying for all of them anyway.

so in this case i'll probably build the version with the bridge AND the 37mm gun...

Teacher - can you post a link to the info on the 251-7 W/ PaK gun?? From ML?

Thanks for all the opinions! I love halftracks too, you can really detail the interiors without spending loads of $$ on after-market stuff.

I think I'm gonna get the most outta my $$ and model one like on the box, providing I find more references...save that new MG mount to put on an Ausf. A when it comes out.

Steve-o, noone seems to have noticed so far that the black & white photo you posted of the /7 is interesting in its' own right? How so? Firstly, the number plate, a 7 digit WH number indicates a late (post 1943) vehicle, yet it's all one colour (Grey or dark green?), & it's a /C. Note also that the crew are all wearing the field grey panzer style uniform, so this would seem to confirm a late war picture. But the most interesting thing about the photo is that the engineer half track is towing an anti-tank gun of some sort. It's quite hard to be sure from the angle, but I'd guess it's the 2.8Cm taper bore gun going by the shield shape. However the carriage looks like a 3.7Cm PAK 35/6.
The /10 3.7cm version was intended to be platoon leaders vehicle, so theoretically I see no problem with the platoon leader of an armoured engineer platoon having the gun & the footbridges (cf engineer vehicles with frame antennae). Some versions had the 2.8Cm instead.

Steve-o,

Do the engineer vehicle (with or without) the PAK. That's the neatest! Consider; all kinds of HTs out there, but how many have the engineer equipment on 'em?? Probably this one only.

Other consideration, of course, are you going to build it static or put it in a dio? If it's going in a dio, then build what will fit best. If not, ENGINEER!!!

Sorry, I'm Artillery, so my reasoning can't be blamed on my past

Mike

Besides, I want to see your finished product!

I would start with the /7, the work to the /10 and finally the /1. Yes do them all, but the Eng is the rarest, and so that is where I would/will start!!

Enjoy!
