Hi all,
I'm working on my M4A1. The model was half finished and hidden somewhere under my bed :-)
I decided it was time to finish it. The only things I'd done so far were building the turret and attaching the upper hull to the lower hull....
The beginning:
Olive drab:
Second, lighter olive drab, leaving edges in the dark base colour:
With all the tools etc painted in their base colour...
Any comments are welcome! Remember, weathering still needs to be done....as well as decals and the wheels and tracks!
Once finished, this will be my entry for "One of our tanks is better than 10 of yours"

Martin that looks good so far, I like the sandbags and the cargo on the back.
How did you made or where did you buy that rope where the cargo is attached with.
I can't wait to see it finished.
Greetz Rob!

The rope comes from a tamiya kit, it's actually ment to be used as a tow cable.....but I used it to keep the cargo in place

I like your painting.
Is this the tamiya kit??
Why have you putt a piece of wood in the sprocketwheelholder?

If I were to do one thing here, it would be to replace the Ma Deuce (.50 cal) with either an aftermarket one or one from an Italeri kit tht has the handles as a separate piece. The solid handles really detract from the realism of the kit.

The current .50 is one from academy, which I like better than the italeri one. But I'll replace those handles (these are also seperate btw)

I think that was to protect the hole from getting filled with paint while he was sparying. If you look he has covered up all the holes on the bogies too

What is the sprocketwheelholder, and what is a sprocketwheel?
The wood at the front of the tank is just extra armor, just like the sandbags...

I would cut the camo netting off from the gun mantlet and where the main gun meets into the gun mantlet On the real thing if it was like that the recoilfrom the 76mm would draw the netting back into the mantlet and cause all sorts of problems
Other than that it is a great looking tank so far

Hi,
I like the stowage. I seem to see a gap where the pistol port is attached to the turret. Can you putty to make the transition to the edge of the port smoth?

Haha the main reason for attaching the camouflage netting was to cover up italeris fault there as I was to lazy to sand away the stepped-up section near the mantlet. I think I'll remove the camouflage netting and try to replace the barrel with a jordi rubio one....
Thanks for telling me this, what you say really makes sense :-)!

It looks good Martin. The only doubts i've got are:
- is the texture on the sand bags a bit overscale?
- there is a bit too much camo net on the barrel?

Well camouflage nets are big, so it wouldn't be too much in my opinion, but like generalzod already said a few posts above: it would cause problems...
So if possible I'll remove it....

It should be gloss black Martin I would paint them after you have added any flat clear coat

Ok I've removed the camouflage netting and replaced the handles on the .50cal......now I've got another question. Sometimes I see that a small piece of the barrel is painted in an aluminium looking colour....like on this one:
http://www.missing-lynx.com/gallery/usa/szm4a1.htm
I guess it has something to do with the recoil of the 76mm gun.....but can someone confirm this, or am I wrong? And should it always be painted like this, or not?

Hi Martin,
I think you will find that strip is actually white rather than metal and would be a marking of some sorts not to sure on what for though.

I don't think you needed to remove the entire camo net off the gun. You just didn't need to use so much and not run it all the way to the mantlet. In fact you might want to measure a 75mm barrel and net anything longer than the 75mm to the end of the muzzle. Crews often tried to hide the fact thay had the bigger guns since they were often singled out by German gunners due to their higer firepower.
