Looks like the AFV Club offering is not all that great according to one reviewer over on Track Link.
I'm not a Tiger experten, but it seems there are some serious issues with the kit.
Waiting is...

I've had no problem getting 3 of the "initial" version and I've preordered 1 of the "late" models from Great Models.

Well, if you had actually READ the introduction, what Paul Owen actually described it was, was a 'brief look' Quote:

This is a good kit and will be a fun model to detail. It is kilometres ahead of the Tamiya kit. But with the marketing coup recently pulled off by DML by getting their Tiger I out first this new AFV Club kit won't recieve the recognition it deserves
On the other hand, Terry Ashley over at P.M.M.S. rated it very highly indeed...
Personally, I'l be going with the DML kit, after the work they put in with the 'Initial Type' it givesme considerably more confidence as a 'tiger Newbie'..Jim

The Dragon website was updated yesterday. Under new releases was the Tiger 1 late. Does that mean it will be on shelves or are they announcing a new model?

I'm going to avoid taking offense at my perception of tone and sarcasm and note that I did not mention WHICH review on track link I was speaking of.
So to be more specific, I was referring to Robert Lu's March 6 extensive, image suported comments in the Modelling / Construction section. He is far from complimentary about dimensional issues with the kit.
At that point, I had NOT seen Paul owen's review. Yes, Paul Owen's review came out on the 16th of Feb and Mr Lu did not post until March 6. I had not seen it.
So, in fact, I did READ, I was just not terribly specific about which review I had read.

Got my 3 in 1 inital a couple of days ago. Holy Moly ! What a kit. I got a preorder in with Great Models for this late version. For all you detractors of these kits. Who cares what you think. So take your calipers and little picture books and go over to the other site where you can quibble with those clowns. Leave us model builders who just want to have fun building a great kit that'll be fun to build alone. We won't miss you.

Here. Here Blaster I agree 100%. The slide rule guys is why I got out of armor modeling and contests for the last 10 years. I got tired of hearing your tank is 1mm to small in length.Who cares. I 'm not taking it into battle , I' m just trying to relax. But I'm coming back into the fold again and I have ordered the dml Tiger 1 initial from Great Models Webstore. I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Gordon at Sprue Brothers hasn't even got pricing for them yet. This, he says, is an indicator that it will not be for at least 60 days. That was a week and a half ago.

:-) Well, well, well,
Early, mid, late, who cares... If there all like the first, I'm buying them all Now, I have also purchased the T34/76 german winter version... not at all the same. It's still a good kit, with some fine detail, metal cables, clear parts for the turret visors, but...I didnt have that one, Live and learn,
The forest preceeds man, the desert follows him...

Is it me or does Dragon have a pulse on Model building crowd???
I finished the Dragon Stug 10.5cm for the Ardennes Offensive... I LOVED THIS KIT.
Now, I am starting to clean the parts for the Panther Late A, 60th Anniversary Normandy Campaign 1944.
ALL THE WHILE, I am eye-balling the Tiger I Initial Type (3 in 1).......
I hope Dragon keeps up the fervor, I predict that alot of great kits may be on the way

Say, now that you mention it there IS a Tiger rolling by in front of those two US half tracks. :-) I was hoping THAT was what all the fuss was about, a new, really new, US halftrack in plastic. Oh well, maybe after DML sells every one of these tigers they can make, which based on the comments here it sounds like they will.
I really have no huge interest in a Tiger, but I just might have to pick up one of those, just to see how the other half lives. Of course sneaking it past SWMBO is something else again.

I did the old Italeri Tiger about a year and had a blast. If they had to flood the market with a German tank I'm glad it's a Tiger.

Flood the Market...
I hardly think two kits (of that standard) is flooding the market. When the new, improved, all-singing all dancing Shermans appear from DML, we'll see if you use the same expression :-) , Also, if you enjoyed building the Italeri Tiger, pick up one of the DML ones, you just might get a VERY pleasant surprise...Jim
