Jim
Thanks for the poll I like the idea of being able to upload our own avatars if that is an easy feature for you to add

Will we have the option of keeping the ones we have now?

I don't care, it does not matter to me. Having said that, one of the things to think about if people get the ability to upload their own avatar is that you need to have the right to veto their avatar.
There's no telling what people will try to upload.

I kind of like the avatars that are here already... allowing users to upload their own is a nice idea but can open a whole new can of worms........ we can already add custom banners to our sig's as it is.. Maybe just a larger selection would be nice.

Choice is good.

As for me, the avatar I use now looks lot like me (only not quite a good lookin' :-) ).
I'd hate to loose it.

To quote someone's sig line........"I like my avatar". I believe that the powers that be won't let us down. Ya'll decide, and we'll all still be happy here.

Avatars are a good thing. Makes it easy to spot messages by the avatar when scrolling -- ie, Animal is pretty unique, 'as is 'Roo; few people use Kermit, so I'm pretty visible. In fact I think I got Kermit from here & took it to other boards.
Assuming size is constrained as now, then they can't get to intrusive. And assuming, we police some of the "bad choices" that will inevitably show up ....

My 2 bits (inflation, don cha know?) Allow access to public domain/custom avatars, such as a personal picture or one available in the web, at least to those who have paid memberships. Okay, so this sounds elitist, but Jim does a boatload of work, some of us pay (johnny come lately here) and most of us don't. No judgements/offense intended, please. But upon joining the
A Guard, you might be offered a bit more in options.

I'm not a A-Guard member, but I wholeheartedly support that idea.

Me to, but I'd settle for being able to link to them from a site like Photobucket or something

Hi there
Having extra options for A-Guard members sounds a very good idea.
As for my avatar - I was really chuffed when Jim allocated it to me. I hope he doesn't think I actually look that old... but at least it's something I'll grow into with age!
All the best

Yes it does sound elitist, but I agree, let the A-Guard members upload avatars, an extra bennie for helping support the site, the rest of us will deal with what is available. MHO

I say everyone can choose his own avater. That way you get a more personal account which I like.
And I disagree on the part that gold/silver members only get to choose their avater. Members who don't have this status may add a lot more to the site through adding content to the site. And don't foget members younger than 18 years who can't transfer money to other countries (at least here in the Netherlands you've got to be 18 to do so). Or the members who simply don't have money for these sort of things, although they wish they could pay there silver/gold member status!
I fully support custom avaters for all members! No matter which status!
Cheers,
Martin

A couple more Patton pics would be nice. Since most of us are using the same one.

I pretty much like my avatar. It actually looks like me between Easter and Labor Day, when I roam the Earth without my goatee. I'd like it better if the shirt were Packer green or gold instead of Viking purple.
