I used Model Masters' Sand 1706 on my kit. It seems too pale. I also used Model Masters' US Army/Marine Sand 2136 on my other kit. It seems too dark. I need perfect paint for my new kits. I prefer Humbrol. I can take either Polly, Vallejo or Model Masters.

A wash wil darken the lighter kit and the darker kit can be lightened with drybrushing and dusting with weathering powders.

An out of the bottle match for modern Sand is Testors Model Master Sand, FS# 33531. It is a perfect match to vehicles I served on in Iraq and in the motorpool. Once weathered, it looks perfect.

I have the same problem also, and I've been trying to figure this out for awhile myself. I tried everything and still not have the right shade so; I just decided to use the light at different shades to make my color.

I seen alot of pictures of shades of sand colour and the only difference is what light they used when photographing.

Try Tamiya TS46, it is a great color for your armor.

The TS46 from tamiya doesn't come in a bottle to be airbrushed. So you will need to spray the spray can into a tube or a drinking straw into a empty jar. You wouldn't need to add thinner because it has it already. But when you close it up and reopen it treat it like a soda bottle that got droped and let the air out real s-l-o-w-w-w or it will go all over due to the areasl in the paint.

I haven't used the TS46 yet but I will when I get done with my campaign. I was thinking of a Abrams or a Bradely opened. I might also do a quick project like a M113A2 in a OIF setting.

Thanks, Recon. I'll try Tamiya paint.

Thanks, Tom. I don't mind using brush all over a tank body, though.

Thanks, HeavyArty. I'm 90% sure that Model Masters' Sand 1706 is too pale in many light shades. It matchs to a real tank's color only under a very bright sun.

Sabot, thanks for helping out. Please, tell me what is a wash? I'll may need that in the future.

How about Tamiya Acrylic Buff? The ones that come in a bottle?

I have a Bradley that I want to build.

Hello All,
I too prefer the Tamiya BUFF with a little black or even white added depending on where I am in the painiting process.

Tamiya Buff is perfect of DCUs (US desert uniforms), but I do not think for vehicles.

Well, you could always give our Gulf War Sand Tan (FS 33446) a try. Order item ARUS 01 from our armor colors on our secure website. No minimum order on paints, and we ship worldwide.

Cheers,
