I have a 1/35th scale Tamiya M4A3 Sherman for my Ardennes Offensive diorama. I superdetailed it with scratchbuilt parts. It is 100% finished.

I also have a 1/35th scale Tamiya Sherman with the 105mm gun. It's still in the box. I'm planning to put it in a future diorama.

I forgot to include on my list an Italeri M4A3(75)W and a MP M50 which will be backdated to a M4A4(T) with the turret going on another hull.

There's more to Shermans than just olive drab!

Heller M4a3
Tamiya M4
Tamiya M4a3 (half made)
DML Firefly Vc (almost done for Canadian campaign)
The previous version DML firefly vc
AFV Achilles
Academy M10 and
Academy M10 Duckbill
Verliden Firefly turret
Tiger models M4 composite hull cos I got sick of waiting for the DML reissue (though it'll probably be out before I get this one made!

Well, my "in progress" list isn't too bad, a late Canadian Lee, a Ram OP modification to the Resicast hull & S-Tank turret plus some scratchbuilt masters for an HVSS upgrade to Bandai's 1/48 M4A3.

The "toDo" pile of Shermans & variants, though is about 30 kits plus a LOT of details, bits & bobs.

The kit is simple and nice.

Well, as I recall (been a few years since I've seen it) the turret shapes are not quite right. The outline is pretty good, but the fillets at the base of the gunners "nose" between the guns are too soft and there is detail lacking around the actual gun rotors themselves. I scratchbuilt one a number of years ago and even then missed a couple of points that were not visible on the drawings & available photos. I saw my mistakes when I got the photos of one of the remaining Skink turrets that had been on a range before Bill Greg saved it some years ago. It's currently in storage at the Shilo museum with the rest fo the Greg Collection.

One has the choice to put Canadian Dry Pin tracks on it. This has only been available from the S Models' Sexton Mk II althought Historica (from Italy) is about to produce a set later this year.

Yeah, I scracthbuilt my CDP track. 100ish links per side with 3 parts per link. Oi! Took me months of casting, sanding & glueing to get them together.

This is a hobby, right? Fun, right? Sometimes I wonder!

Maybe you should include the rule that if you participated in the One of our Tanks Campaign you cannot build the same variant. For example I built the Italeri Marine M4A2(75). Therefore I cannot build another M4A2(75).

I think you would have to be very specific about that. By using your example, you wouldn't be able to build a small hatch M4A2(75) which of course is different than the Italeri A2.

Well said Chris As with the previous campaign it would include the M3 Lee/Grant series and the Canadian Ram

It was just a thought to spice up the variety. We could further refine that or eliminate it altogether. Thought it would be better not to have everyone submitting the same tank they built last time.

Alan
I do see your point What I think Chris and I are thinking was say someone built the M4A2 that has a big hatch hull Maybe instead build another M4A2 but using the small hatch or even a N.Africa M4A2 that had the 3 piece tranny and used the M3 Lee bogies

I did start a thread on a future Sherman campaign

No problem. We can further refine the definition of "same as previous variant" as you see fit.

How about no previous variant with the same hull configuration

Greetings, my friends...just caught wind of this post(been a very busy week!) and had to pipe in my two cents...on my workbench right now I have Academy Models M4A2 Sherman, U.S. Marines...really cool version, amphibious style with the exhaust and intake extensions. I'm building it out of the box for a full build review, so I won't be making any adjustments or alterations to the piece...anybody else build this particular one yet? So far it's a sweet build...
Gunny....out!

Sounds good to me! With all the Sherman variations there really isn't much need to do the same configuration as last time unless your trying to do the vehicles of a specific unit.

I'll post some more Sherman pics on my site this weekend to give people some ideas.

In-progress Shermans ... let's see ...

M4A3(75) dry, rebuilt -- Tamiya lower hull and low-bustle turret, MP Models upper hull, Academy bogies, bit of scratch -- needs paint (waiting for the weather to warm up and dry out).

M4A1(76)W -- mostly Italeri kit, with nice straight barrel with no muzzle cap from Dragon M4A2(76)W kit. Added scratch Cullin hedge cutter to make this a Operation Cobra tank. About 75% done.

Marine M4A2(75) -- lower hull from DML M4A2(76)W kit, high-bustle turret from Tamiya M4A3, scratch wading stacks. 90% done.

M4A3(75)W tankdozer -- Tamiya M4A3 with Trakz conversion dozer. 75% done.

M32 TRV -- Italeri parts with Tamiya M4 hull. Not very far along and am strongly considering using the DML M4A1 hull to make this a little nicer.

M4(75) dry -- This has the Verlinden interior and Commanders engine compartment. Academy bogies. Lots of scratchbuilt stuff. The never-ending project because I have WAY too much reference. About 75% (??) done.

Sherman Crocodile -- Another Tamiya M4(75) dry -- This one is with the Formations M4 update set and the Crocodile trailer from the Tamiya kit. Started.

M4A1(76)W w/ HVSS -- Kit bash between Italeri M4A1 and DML "Easy Eight." Got the tracks all done and put it away for a while. About 80% done.
