There was a successful thread entitled "Artillery Jeapordy knowledge test" where a question was asked, people attempted to answer. The first correct replier then was notified by the person who had posted the just-answered question. This replier then was able to post his/her own question for the group to try to answer. Make sense?
A few caveats:
1) Please ask questions that can be verifiable and not along the lines of "how many M4A1 HVSS were fielded during WW2?" I'm not looking to open a can of worms here.
2) if you correctly answer the question just posed, submit yours and monitor the replies. Acknowledge the correct one and let that person post his/her own question.
3) M3/M4 Medium tanks, their variants and their deployments and uses in many fields (and times) of conflict: all are viable areas to post questions.
Here goes (with an EASY one):
What were the US equivalents of these British designations?
Sherman I
Sherman II
Sherman III
Sherman IV
Sherman V
"c" armament
"b" armament

The 'a' (76mm) is coming out from DML, Tamiya make the 105mm 'b' late model, airfix make the M4 in 1:76.

We didn't get any Jumbos and only a few M4A3s of any sort. The only non-American one was a single example used by the French.

How about this one? Besides the engine what visual clues distinguish the M4A6 from most other Shermans?

Yes it is Joe. I understand it was also the only later produced model that had the appliqué armor, because it didn't have the wet armor storage.

Sabot PM'd me with the correct answer as well. Joe, Great Brit, asked me to ask the following questions since he's out of town.
"what was the name of the sherman 1 used as a command tank by the RMASG in the initial stages of normandy? "
I hope somebody has that answer, I haven't a clue.

I do believe FOX was a Sherman V (M4A4). There is a nice model of it recently posted on the Constructive Comments group at Missing Lynx.

I have to agree that Fox was an M4A4 but if you read page 25 from Concord's British Tanks of WWII (1)..It does say that the shermans were used as command tanks for this unit ...Oh well I guess there were others ..I don't know which one was a Sherman I.

OK, I'm going on the assumption that Rick is correct with his answer of "Fox". (and yes I know what assuming can sometimes do ) In that case my answer to his question is: the first Sherman to enter Bastogne was an M4A3E2 named Cobra King, and here is the pic. edit: OK I just reread Jim's post then Rick's last one, and maybe Rick was wrong?? Oh well, if so, a little extra Sherman trivia concerning Cobra King.

OK, I'm going to go ahead, and if Rick's answer turns out to be incorrect then we just got a little extra Sherman trivia here. OK my question is a little more technical but I still think it's pretty easy.
What was the reason for the change from the low bustle to the high bustle on the Sherman turrets?
Cheers,
Mike
