I first got on when I was in Texas. I left there in Jan 1996, so it would have had to have been at least since the summer of 1995 or earlier.

I was given my first computer, just before I went for open heart, spent the recovery time learning how to use it. (I didn't even know how to turn it on) that was back in Feb, 99

If I do a Dejanews search I think I can find old posts of mine to rec.models.scale going back to '93. Met my wife on an old 286 in '98.
Of course, my deceased father was on the internet as far back as I can remember. In fact, I still have the old Altair 8080 from the mid-seventies we had. It used to run out of memory halfway through typing (yes, typing) in the old Basic Star Trek programs out of Byte magazine.

Got the first home computer in October 1995 and started with Prodigy until it became too unstabel in the spring of 98.

Wow! Haven't even given it a thought for nearly thirty years, but yeah-
It lives in a cave of some sort with different rooms. Seems that was another one you had to type in yourself, after machine loading (by hitting a series of switches using base 8 code) and then loading Basic into the machine on a cassette. I think we had a whopping 10K of memory. Does that sound about right?

18Bravo - you just gave away your age, so was it a PDP, Nova, Eclipse or HAL :-) ?
For those who didn't know WUMPUS it's from 1972.

Just looked it up on Ebay-
It seems my dad's old Altair 8800 (I guess the actual microprocessor was called an 8080) is going for over $600. Without all the screws!
Wonder what mine would fetch? It's complete.

An 8800 complete should fetch a pretty penny, ours never did get to the point of having their cases installed, they were for hardware experimentation, and yes it's an 8080 maybe an 8080A.
DG standard system disk boot is 100027 and the Winchester boot is 100022. Why can't I get those switch settings out of my head? What a geek !

I've been on (and off) the web since about '94, although sometimes it seems like I'm starting all over again. For the most part, I really got into it on a regular basis about 6 years ago. As for the other subject, I started on a Commodore 64 which loaded (in about a day and a half) from a cassette, then I "graduated" to an Atari 520ST. Currently using a Compaq Presario 6000.
