Frank: what kind of mines did it place? Any pictures?

It might make a cool model with a demolition charge dangling manacinly off the boom. Sort of the Wermacht version of the Churchill funny with the flying dustbin. Definitely explains why they used a Tiger chassis.

Konrad, I have a vague memory of seeing some large mines in resin but I cannot remember where. Check Gaso.Line and Propaganda Kompany's sites for them. A mine-laying Tiger with a mine would make for an excellent diorama.

There seems to be some question whether these kits will ever arrive in volume here in the USA. SkyBow is apparently demanding an exorbant minimum order from potential distributors. Further, 3 weeks after their release, they still have not appeared in Japan; by far the most lucrative potential market .

Hello Thomas!

Go to : www.wingsntreads.com

This gentleman can get them for you in about 2 weeks minimum, or he may have them in stock again even now. ( I understand they have been moving off his shelves quite nicely .) The SkyBow Tigers are selling for $25 a kit, and he has a stock of Tamiya 1/48th armor as well.
Incidently, I have no affiliation with this mailorder shop.

Thomas -

I failed to notice you reside in Spain; forgive me. I'm sure Olivier of Gas-O-Line can provide them to you more conviniently. I believe he has been selling them for 20 Euro. His site is Quarterkit:

http://www.quarter-kit.com

Again, I thought you were in the USA.

Interesting. Hopefully my retailer, greatmodels.com, will be able to get some from their distributor.

Why would they do this? I'd think they'd be extra-accomodating, what with this being an attempt to establish a new scale (or more accurately, re-establish an old scale) and all.

You can order Skybow Tigers from Track48 as well. They are in Toronto.

What a fine kit the new SkyBow Tiger I is. I have the late production version. I do not know anything about 1/35 scale Tigers and so I can not compare them but anyone who likes Tigers will like this one. No need to worry about how to apply zimmerit as it is part of the moulding. It even has a mounting for the AA MG34. Close attention to detail was paid in the making of this kit including the rain drainage slits in the commander's cupola. But most importantly, this kit can be put together quiclky. There is no reason why a modeller can't construct one and begin painting in an evening. That's what so nice about 1/48 scale: detail and ease of assembly. Modelling can be fun AND relaxing again. Not much PE is required to make this kit more realistic, but it is available for those who want it. I'm still debating as to whether to get the individual resin track links (snap-together) with the hollow guide horns or use the kit ones.

Ah, the rubber tracks. I am experiencing the same challenge of decision, but have opted to await SkyBow's next release: their own version of static tracks. Their site display suggests they will be very much like those in Tamiya's kits.

Just one note of disappointment with these Tigers:; the packaging. While they are quite sophisticated and visually appealing, they are too big ! They take up to much space to be stored with Tamiya or Bandai kits. SkyBow apparently contracted with the same people who supply the soldier doll boxes to Dragon; they are exactly the same article.

For those in the US Wingsntreads.com has several Skybow Tigers currently and more on the way. I've just completed negotiations with Douglas Models to get these kits to Great models.com as well. So early fallthey should have thiers in.

Actually, those drainage slits are one of my minor gripes about the model...
