Hi guys,
Here's a hot question. How many of you guys do modelling in those sticky hot days of summer? For one, I revert back to gardening (small scale). It's a change of pace and gives the wife and I, a chance (time) to reconnect... No pun intended.
Airbrushing is not easy in hot and humid climate. So, give me inspiration...
Claude
I wish you all a great summer

I don't do too much indoor stuff in the summer until late at night or if it's raining outside

If I am going to finish a model & not just work on it for awhile to only put it back in the box indefinitely :-) then Summer is the best time for me. I have to paint (airbrush) outside & I find that warmer temperatures help with my airbrush painting.

Seeing as the workshop is in the basement along with the fact that I don't own an airbrush, weather doesn't really matter to me. Also, any activities I do over the summer (work! ) take up the same amount of time as school, so I'm basically a year-round modeller.

I'm a year round guy as well. The basement is plenty cool enough and I run a dehumidifier as well. I do slow down a bit but this year my shop is full of campaigns.

It gets to 50 degrees celcius in the shade out here in Arabia land. This is the best time to paint figures in oils.
And yes. Thank God for central airconditioning.

I model year round. Time of year doesn't really matter to me. Maybe a little less time in the summer as the pool and the odd cold brew does have a tendency to call quite often.

Hi Diamondso88, thats a good question.
I've only been building since Jan.-05 so this summer should be interesting.
In the summer any days off are spent on my boat out on the bay or ocean, fishing. Then theres cleaning fish, drinking at the Tiki bar on the patio, playing lifeguard for my kids and half the neighborhood kids in the pool and then more fishing if the moons out and more Tiki bar after that. I'll have to pray for rain. Cheyenne

I prefer summer too, mostly because lack of school. Also I can aibrush on my balcony which is quite imposible during autumn/winter. When i have time in winter I do airbrushing in my bathroom which can be quite a pain sometimes...

I model in my basement, too. The furnace is down there, too, so it stays pretty much a constant 70 degrees year round. I will move some stuff to the enclosed sun porch during the summer so it is like modeling outside. Best of both worlds...

Max, my wife is the kitchen supervisor at the high school and she is isn't too happy about having to feed everyone on the Tuesday after a three day weekend for the last day of school either. She hasn't complained but personally I think making everyone go back for one day is asinine.

Since I do the majority of my building at work, on the midnight shift, I guess you could say I model year round, but finishing slows up as I do the majority of the finishing at home. Sometimes enjoying the nice weather replaces time at the modelling desk at home though.
As for heat and humidity, I've never had that problem, AC and a dehumdifier works wonders, reguardless of the outside conditions.

All year for me to, my shop is in the basement and is rather pleasant year around, no humidity problem here, the only time there is moisture in the air is when it's raining.
I do tend to work on outdoor projects alot more when the weather cooperates and takes some time out of my modelling time.

Build year-round but wait to paint in the summer so as to bake the paint in the 90+ degree shade. Works like a charm to generate those smooth, uniformly matt finishes we so desire.

I build year round. My primary work shop is in my garage with NO AC or primary heater. I use a box fan and a space heater. In the summer I have to be careful of sweet dripping from my head onto my bench.

I build year round. I live in the south so we have some fairly humid summers. I do all my painting outside so I usually try to paint early in the morning before it gets hot and humid. During the winter I have to catch a day when it's a little warmer. I can usually catch a day to get my painting done.

I have a 2 story house. So since heat rises my main modeling room is upstairs. But in the summer when it is warmer,I move to my dining room table, just carrying the tools I need to the new location.Since I only have 1 A/C I position myself as close to it as I can.
My airbrushing station is in my cellar. It has exposed ledge, which the house is built on,and the temperature remains a cool 55 degrees.

Hello All,
My workshop is in the basement so it's a great retreat from the hot summer months. I don't really slow down during the year, I just keep plugging right along.
