Hi Guys ....I just bought Tamiya's Challenger II and I know nothing at all about modern tanks ...I'm looking for a good paint match for the desert scheme used during Op Telic...Also the vehicle I'm modeling has the gun in the dark green color ..My decal sheet says Olive drab but I'm not sure about that ...
I have access to Tamiya ,ModelMaster, Humbrol, Gunze and modelair paints.. Please help out a newby into the world of modern AFV's...

Hi Rick,
So, giving modern armor a go huh?! You picked a nice kit to work with. For the desert color I like Model Master's British Gulf Armor Light Stone enamel. (not sure if they make an acryl color that matches it) As for the dark green I like XF-67 Tamiya NATO green. Oh and by the way, all the pics I have where the barrel is a different color it appears to be black or very dark gray. I know there is some debate over this, that's just my opinion fwiw. Try a search on the ML modern DG, there has been a good bit of discussion over there on this subject.
Good luck,
Mike

From the photos I've seen the green gun's are green, not grey or black. Tamiya nato green looks about right.
I'm trying to find a good colour match for mine too. White ensign models makes a colour called Gulf Armour Light Stone (BS 361), their website: http://www.whiteensignmodels.com/.
The British colour is quite yellow, rather than sand. I was thinking of mixing a little Tamiya flat yellow with either dark yellow or desert yellow.
If you go to Yahoo, and click the image tab in their search feature, type in 'Challenger 2 Iraq' or something similar it will bring up plenty of good photos. Yahoo worked better for me than google.
Here is the MOD site that has large photos: http://www.operations.mod.uk/telic/photo_gallery.htm
Here is the MOD search able photo database:
http://www.defenceimagedatabase.mod.uk/fotoweb/
this one only has small photos on it though.
Hope this is of some help. Let us know what colour you decide to use.
