Pretty cool. It looks like quite a fun build.
The bags look a bit big and round.
I like the armor on the 50cal.
Pretty fun.

Thanks Scott, that's exactly what it was - just for fun - but then we all need a break from reality occasionally!

I love the skulls and the shielded MG. I also did a jumble of parts a while back. I used every spare part I could muster regardless of accuracy to build a Sherman. Approrpriately I named her Frankenstein! After seeing your cobbled up Sherman I just may have to scratch a few more things for Frankenstein.

Very interesting build... I also like the skulls and other "personal" touches. It looks like you had a bit of fun, and came up with a very impressive piece. thanks for sharing!

Interesting.

Perhaps they are! The 'sandbags' started off about 1/2" long by 3/8" wide, but were obviously too thick as when I flattened them into place they grew somewhat.
Thanks for the comments guys - for a couple of days fun this has attracted a lot of interest! :-)

Dave. Sometimes it's the simple things that turn out the best. Did you actually see a shielded .50 on a Sherman or did you just take creative license? I actually toyed with the idea of twin .50s once but never got around to doing it.

I've seen it on Jeeps, so I just thought "Why not add it to a Shermie?"

The skulls came from a set of heads and helmets, can't remember who made them. There have been pics published of jeeps and other vehicles displaying these macabre ornaments. As my reasoning for this build was an up-armoured vehicle who's job would be to run at point in a formation, I thought that these may be an attempt to intimidate the enemy.

Looks great, Dave! I think we're often too rigid in our modelling: if it hasn't been photographed, it doesn't exist. It looks quite in character and there must have been many similar Shermans out there.
As Shain said, some barbed wire would look cool, too.
Are the skulls on stakes? I can't really tell in the first pic.

No, the skulls are just stuck into gaps in the sandbags. As to being rigid - accuracy is good, but this was just for fun and never intended to display an actual vehicle so 'artistic licence' was used all the way!

A piece of fine net mesh (from a Tamiya kit) was pressed into the putty whilst it was still wet - easy.

Nice! Skulls are a nice touch! You never know stuff like that happens all the time!
