Hi all,
I completed this build in 8-9 hours yesterday from start to finish.
Its Tamiyas Quad gun tractor OOB...except I added a Jerry can rack on the roof, bag rack on the left side and made my own canvas for the roof from tissue paper.
All comments welcome

Nicely done Andy. My only comment is the dusting and weathering you have done.

The wheels do not match the body as far as the dusting is concerned and I concider you were a bit heavy handed with the brushed on dust on the body.

I know you have an AB now so it would be far easier and give a better result to just give a light dusting with the AB and do between the tyre treads with a brush.

Other then that it looks good and the handpainted 'Waikato' name on the rear looks the part as well as soldiers often did the truck names by hand.

Cheers
Cliff

PS> as I told you the other night I have opened about 4 of these kits but have never made one up as a Quad GT yet!

:-) :-) And I thought, I was the only one who has never built one of these...... OH well, perhaps somewhere in the future.... :-) :-) :-)
Looks like a rather easy, out of the box build.
Nice job .... and knowing you now have an airbrush, "we will be watching for the progress"....... :-) :-)

If you managed this in 8-9 hours, you did well. Cliff has already mentioned the mud, but what I really noticed is the jerrycans, which I assume are from Tamiya?. They are wrong as they have only the two handles, whereas they should have three handles. If you can't replace them, you could put a rag or tarp (alu foil) over them to cover the handles.

Oh, and by the way, the mud on the tyres doesn't always match the mud on the body, so your'e alright there..

8 hours, I take that long just opening the box and bags..

Cheers

Thanks for the comments all,
Cliff: The Dusting in real life is a lot more subtle. But on theright side it has been over done. I made a mix of pastel and water and put it on a little thick.
Yo really should build one cliff. They are super accurate :-)

Thanks Dave, I am now beginning to get a stash so there certainatly will be more to come.

Thanks Anthony

Henk: I was surprised by how quickly I got this done. The Jerry cans are from some stuff Cliff sent me so I have no idea where they are from though as you say I think they might be tamiya. In North Africa the Commonwealth troops didn't have Jerry cans their petrol came in tins and were known to leak quite often so many comandeered German Jerry cans. So I don't know if the germans had two handles or three.

Wow thats a super fast build Andy.

The canvas on top looks great. Have you got the 25 pounder to go with it now?

What is the meaning of Waikato?

Not sure of the exact meaning but it is an area (mainly dairy farming) South of Auckland in the North Island of New Zealand. A very beautiful part of New Zealand it is as well.

cheers

Neil, Thanks for the comments. At the time I bought this I was pretty strapped for cash so I could only afford the truck by itself. But one day I would like to build it with the gun and limber.

What is the meaning of Waikato?

Hi Alan, Waikato is a Maori word meaning "flowing water" because of the river that flows through the area. Waikato is the name of the province in which I live famous for our diary farms as Cliff mentioned.

Thanks Dave, I am becoming more and more interested in NZ vehicles from WWII.

Andrew, in my opinion you've got a very nice build there! And the idea of the rack of jerrycans on top of the cab is brilliant! Just the desert spirit! Congrats!
Cheers and happy modelling!

hi
Andrew,

It looks like you liked the tamiya Quad. (i have one here too). A few comments;

For my standards the dusting is too rough.I've never seen such a dusted,in this case more "sanded" vehicle. Maybe you could remove some of the pigments and retry with the AB like the other members allready said.
My next comment is the windscreen. Try a more subtel way of dusting those. Mask the "wiped" (sorry for the poor english) and add a little dust with the AB ,you'll get a nice realistic effect.
The others allready mentioned the tires.
I don't have much info on the commonwealth desert color.I think you used the german yellow.(don't know exactly)
I'm not an expert on these vehicles. But is the "88" the only marking on the vehicle?

I hope to see some more products of your hand.

Thanks for the comments Quinten and Peter.
Quinten, I have taken off the pigments as you say and have dusted it up with my AB. I must say it looks a lot better!
