I just noticed it at the bottom too. I used to be on the side where the ads are now. I thought it was eliminated because it slowed down the dialup users.
You don't support the troops if you don't support the mission!
The front gate has always been there, but in a different format. The list of online members used to be down the side on the front page and also on the left-hand column where the advertisements are now. Jim is upgrading certain features to improve the site and access. Ive never seen the list at the bottom before, so yes its new. Its handy though if you want to copntact or see those online.

Seems Jim is playing a little bit! The "front line" is horizontal now! I think it's better that way... and it slows nothing on my computer. But I don't have dial-up...

Well...don't get your hopes up too high. If it negatively affects site speed it may need to go back in storage again. However this time I will try to make some improvements to it. Plus now that we are caching 80% of our ads and other high-traffic pages it may not be as much of a problem.
LOL! I was about to say say the original front-gate was dropped because it tied up too many resources and slowed the site down - but Jim beat me to it.
It is really nice to see it back - it gives a greater sense of community but , as Jim said...
All the best
