I was asked to do a table site model of a proposed museum here in my home town of Gympie. The museum is to be a working site of Gympie in the 1880's complete with real buildings of the era and a working gold mine as well.

the Town of Gympie was built as a mining town and the mine still operates and recovers gold from 3 km under the town.

scale is 1/200 and it is 1200mm wide X 1300mm long. (4foot X 4foot 4 inches)

Cheers
Cliff

the overall project

the mine

some of the building I have made.

the base was made using polystyrene sheet to form the contors. The shape of which was taken from survey maps and then I redrew them to the scale required. A special plaster was then spread over these.

At the moment I am just altering the landscape a bit and setting out the site as it will look when finished and open to the public. A large lake will also be added and the site landscaped like a park. Site size is about 50 acres.

cheers
Cliff

Hi Cliff!

That's a challenge and a change of pace from the Softskins

It's a great thing you're doing, so take your time and don't allow the "contractor" to stress you :-)
Just one question: Are you going to include litle 1/200 people, so that the non-modeler have the sense of scale?

Keep us posted on your progress, please

What an honor, that's great. I know your skills are up to it.
When you say working gold mine does that mean you will have moving carts or flowing water? At that scale it's a 'doable' thing. I'm looking forward to more.

Scott what is proposed is a full working town with the shops being open for business and all staff dressed as if they were in 1880. At the top of the site is a vintage steam railway which now operates 3 days a week. An original railway station will be moved to the top by the railway so people can travel to the site by the train. A large project to be sure but I am happy to be in at the ground floor and doing a lot of the planning.

I am also toying with the idea of incorperating a heritage rose garden as well on this site. Plus on another site is planned a military museum set in 1900. This will be designed and built as a replica barrack, quartermaster store and armory from 1900.

Thanks for your interest guys.

cheers
Cliff

Agreed!

Cliff, is there any modeling challenge that is beyond your skills??? (I don't think so ) When we meet in the next life, you will be the Jedi Master, we will be the young apprentices

Keep us posted on this--pretty cool!
