GIS results for Rostov:

No expert on Russian history or geography or even geopolitical history but it looks like they had some pretty substantial buildings in prewar Rostov...

HEllo All.
the house that I´m inspired for my work is this:

is a house that is in Rostov on Don today. really is a printing shop.
acording of my atlas from 1936, Rostov on Don was a city of 320.000 habitants and a important fluvial port. Heavy urban figthing was here in 1941 , 1942 and 1943.

Dear Vladimir,it`s very strange information (like propaganda-"Those wild Russians") and I do n`t where you find it.
It`s so injury for me that you know Rostov as Chikatilo city
Rostov is my,my parents,my grandparents hometown.I`m architect and wrote scient dissertation about Rostov architecture.
Town was found in 1749 near St.Dmitry Rostovsky fortress and quickly became biggest trade and river port city on South of Russia.
With big streets, houses, markets.City goverment invite famous Moscow architects Stasov,Ton,Pomerantsev and they built
here many big houses(classic and eclectic styles) and great Rostov Cathedral.
During 20-30 th years of XX cent giant plain "Rostselmash",Aircraft plain and many another factories, hospitals, hotels were building.
And Rostov Theatre is master-piece of Soviet constructivism architecture.
Rostov always was big, dynamic and modern city-real capital of Southern Russia.I`m proud that living here.
Read history, find photos and you see it.
Thanks.
Vladimir

P.S.Carlos,come on! We`ll make this dio!

VladVolkov,

I'm afraid I have no idea of the relevance of that trivial bit of information to Carlos' lovely building. I also do not appreciate your xenophobic attitude regading the Cossack people. Please, this is a modelling forum, not a political soapbox...

Well, I believe we pretty much established the fact that Rostov is a city, with streets and city buildings, not a downtrodden little village filled with Cossacks unwilling to work, who don't give a damn about a thing except fighting and cheating on their wives. I really don't know what the lifestyle of the Cossacks have to do with the building of the presented project, except try to incite discord. I can assure people that the Cossacks aren't the only people who cheat on their wives, are unwilling to work, and like to fight.

I'm also confused about the remark about a serial killer. What does that have to do with modeling? What does that have to do with the scratch building project presented here? I feel it was mentioned to incite some more discord, and discredit the city of Rostov, and it's many fine hard working, decent living inhabitants. The remark serves no purpose about the constrution of the building.

As always Carlos, excellent work.

Historical accuracy is always going to be a part of modeling and sources are going to vary greatly. Opinions on the entire mater are going to be very diverse also.

Discussion of arcitecture and locations add to the body of knowledge to help us build better models (buildings, or AFVs).

Off-shoot side discussions that are not relavent to modeling need to be saved for the Junk Drawer or a different site.
