Hi all!

As promised... the red crosses!

There were more difficult to paint than I expected... I did a test with Tamiya masking tape to see if the blue paint didn't get off... it did! Even with two coats of Future (Klir in France) the paint did peel off! So no masking tape! I decided to use "post-it" paper but the result wasn't extraordinary! I even had to break the floats, with rigging and all, to paint the roundels.

After some brush painting and additionnal coat of Future the result was acceptable and I put the decals on...

I must say the markings are not 100% accurate... I have some pictures of French Indochina Gooses but the crosses are never the same! So this is a representative mix of several planes... Next step will be glueing the remaining parts (landing gear, lights, forward hatch, side door, engines, aerial wire etc...) and weathering.

Next post will be the last one... I hope!

Hi Jean-Luc

Progressing nicely. Are you going to paint the spinners red?
Almost tempted to start my Sword Goose but still fear the resin parts :-)

Hi David!

YES! The spinners will be red!

I was said the Sword Goose was easier to build... well that's what my LHS owner said while I was searching for Signifer's kit in his shop... and he only had the Sword one available! :-)

Jean-Luc,

Your Goose is coming along nicely. Personally, I have not been able to build anything on my Junkers W34 lately, since I've been very busy at work. I really want to scratch build a lot on the Junkers - and I won't be able to if I wish to finish the Medics-campaign in time... All hope seemed lost!

And then you write that the Sword Goose is "easy" to build! - Well, I have 9 (?) days left on the campaign, hardly any free time, no experience of resin etc. But here we go!!! :-)

David, are you with us!? Wouldn't it be nice with three Geese? One blue, one orange and one...?

Cheers!!! :-)

PolarBear

Still undecided with what to do with my Goose. So I will have to decline your gracious offer. Besides I can't remember where I stored it :-)
Good luck with the resin and remember the safety precautions. Are you going to use the skis from your SAAB 17?
Think I will build the Goose big brother the Albatross for the Vietnam campaign. Someday hopefully it will sit beside my Goose and Widgeon and Duck though there all still in the box.

David!

I hope that you'll find that Goose, and all them other fowl that you mention! :-) :-)

I'm afraid that the Saab B-17 did not use the same type of skis as those used on the Goose.

During the summertime, the SwAF maintained the orange colour, but used wheels instead of skis. Unless I find some appropriate skis very fast (I don't have the time to build them from scratch), I'm going with the wheels!

I think I'm going to experiment a little with the weathering and make it really dirty. Would look nice on the orange, don't you think?

Cheers!

Hi all!

THE LAST POST!

While I was watching at my main reference picture I noticed the tyres of the plane had stripes and the kit ones none!? So I added some by using Tamiya masking tape cut in very thin stripes... result was better than I expected!

Then I painted all the remaining parts and glued them in place...

Et voilà! Mon Grumman JRF Goose!

It was a long build (at least for me) but it was worth it! Even if there are details I'm not satisfied with the overall result is quite pleasing and I'm happy to have this one in my collection!

Polarbear, I'm looking forward to see your Orange Goose! But I wouldn't add too much weathering to it... I think you are courageous to start the kit with only a few days remaining for the campaign! I said courageaous but I could have said... :-)

Thanks for your help on this one guys!

THE LAST POST!

Well maybe for you, Jean-Luc! But now you got me started on my Goose, so if you don't mind I'm going to continue on this thread!

I have been working hard on my Goose for two days. I thought the Medics campaign would end in a couple of days, so I didn't put any effort into the interior (Hey! It's 1/72 and most of the windows are tiny!). The Sword kit does, however, invite those who love detailing and had I known that I would have had the time, I probably would have worked more + opened a door.

With the extention of the campaign, I'm going to be able to put some effort into the exterior of the plane. I am really looking forward to painting it all orange!

Cheers!!!

Hi Björn!

No problem! Good initiative of you!

You are doing some fast progress on your goose! The interior detail level seems to be good for that scale... It's funny by looking at the pics, I have a strange feeling of "déjà vu"... :-)

I see you already found the orange color for your plane... do you plan to pre shade or post shade it? You will have to be very carefull with the mixing... orange isn't really a common color for a plane!

If you want help, I have an article about the Sword 1/72 Goose build in a SAMI issue. Not the best article I have read but it has a lot of pictures... By the way, How was your first attempt with resin parts?

Good luck for the build!

Jean-Luc
