Its' coming...
"By The Book" is just around the corner and this is a friendly reminder to read, or re-read as the case may be, a book or story or maybe a passage from an old favorite and start thinking of your entry.
What are all of you thinking about??
Modern
WW2
Fact
Fiction
Civil War
????
Armor
Figure
When I thought up this Campaign, I had a lot of ideas floating around the empty space in my head...Now start time is close (just over a month- Oct. 1) and I still have a LOT of ideas, but nothing solid. I pulled 6 or 7 books off the shelf to start the other night. I have to skim for some passages, maybe even re-read a book. Red Phoenix, by Larry Bond might be the choice...maybe.
Well, what are you guys / gals thinking of? I'm anxious to know,
Jim aka Jaster aka Noob Campaign Leader

Well fearless campaign leader. I had thought about doing a M1 from Team Yankee or Red Storm Rising but straight M1's aren't that easy to find. I have packed Team Yankee away as well. I'm hoping to sell the house and move this fall. So with that said I picked up the book Thunder Run and will see if I can do something with that ..... If not its off to Panzer Aces and a Tiger.

Well for as of now I have a bit too much on my plate to commit to another campaign but if all goes well with my next project I think I should be able to make this one. I have a few ideas but I will have to go through what I have and see if I can come up with something good. Even as I type this a scene from Another River, Another Town has come to mind.

Scott- I had the same thought...and the same dilemma. Tough to find a plain "old" M1. Maybe one day we'll have the same endless Abrams choices as we have for Tigers, Panthers, Shermans, etc.
Daniel- Hopefully you can squeeze this Campaign in!

Now I'd better get to those old book shelves and see if I can pinpoint something that is possible to build. Definitely fact, WWII, PTO, or maybe North Africa. Thanks for the heads up so I get some reading time in.

I have my entry narrowed down to either a scene from the Battle of the Bulge or Dien Bien Phu. The scene from the Bulge will be much easier to recreate, but the DBP dio is more interesting/challenging. Decisions, decisions.

I like the Dien Bien Phu idea...just my $.02. Vietnam is an under-modeled War, and one that probably affected the members of Armorama deeply.
But the Bulge- Classic, and snow is a great element in a dio. Tough to do but very impressive.
Anxious to see the end product.

The B-52 in "Flight of the Old Dog" has always appealed to me. The description should be enough to do a fairly good model of it.

This is the passage I'm going to recreate....
Quoted Text
The heavy tank IS II, named after Josef Stalin, was a true monstrosity. It's crew of four used a 122mm gun, which could penetrate all German armour. Even the German King Tiger needed to be careful engaging the IS II. The Russians used the IS II in the final battle around Berlin, with devastating results on the last German troops.
An observer of a fight between an IS II and a German Panther recalls that he saw the Russian shell penetrated the Panther's front armour and left again through the rear of the tank before it exploded
So, my dio which shows this scene will include:
Dragon Pzkfw V ausf G "Night fighting Panther"
Dragon IS II heavy tank
+ numberous figures, mainly from dragon
Gonna be a cool project!

Banner looks great to me. I just figured out how to put it on. This is 3 campaigns I've enlisted in so I'm alittle busy, but it does give me something to do while I'm waiting for the paint to dry on one, never a dull moment.

I broke out the Historical Division, War Dept, story on Guam. I can find things on shermans, but ran across a great little section concerning light tanks I am assuming are Stuarts but I can't find a single thing anywhere about Stuarts in Guam. This could be getting difficult. Pretty interesting stuff.

I haven't joined yet but I was thinking about Stephen Hunters USMC sniper Bob Lee Swagger from "Point of Impact".....or maybe "Sticky Stickwell" from "A Piece of Cake"...

Someone had posted a web page not long back of their club's models. Someone in the group had done the converted B-52. They did a really good job. I look forward to seeing yours. I've always wanted to do one, but my scratchbuilding skills suck....Hope you do go ahead and decide to do it.

I've always thought it would be cool to do the Old Dog too.
18bravo, I'm really looking forward to that build.

Well I finally made up my mind.

"On Saipan, these caves were both natural and man-made. Often natural vegetation gave them excellent camouflage. Some had steel doors which could be opened for an artillery piece or machine gun to fire, and then retreat behind the door before return fire could take effect. The flame-throwing tanks could reach many of these caves and so proved very useful."
Should be interesting to come up with a Dio for this, the flames will be a task. Everything else I've already found much of the reference I need.
Good Luck everyone,
Bob
