hello fellow modelers

here I`ve got some progress pictures of my dio
at the moment there is no dio but that is for later on this week
This evening I almost finished my sniper.
he is completely scratchbuilt and he only need some extensive
miliput work and then he will be painted.
This is my first attempt in sculpting my own figures and I`m quite happy with
the result.

Hey FAUST
Thats a sweet idea!!! :-) :-) :-)Its something different and I cant wait to see the results!...please keep the photos comming!!!
The miliput work is really good!
Just a couple of questions that may help...
How has the sniper gotten into his little hide out???
Whats it made out of???
Whats supporting it???
Whats going to be in the house???
Man thats a really sweet idea!!!

hello gatekeeper thanks for the good comments

the sniper is only sculpted now today I`ll give him the miliput job

The Snipers hideout is made of one maybe a couple golfplates wich is supported by a wooden frame (this have to be quite thin or else the hide out get`s to high)
The hide out will have a triangular shape if you look from the side (where the Sniper lays is the highest point at his feet the golfplates will touch the sidewalks)
To hide the hideout the sniper put some planks and loose rubble on it (debries from the ruin next to it)
The sniper just climbs in and out his hideout just from the front where his only access is for this safetyplace
The house situated in my dio is a civillians house with a wooden floor a small table will be visible from all the rubble and next to the window there stand my puppet wich I had in mind would be a puppet where they fit clothes on (don`t know the English word for that)
This puppet is already hit a couple of times and you can see the damage of that to on his helmet and jacket

well that`s what I had to explain from what is visible in my little dio
hope you like it

for everyone else take a look at the link in the first post and tell me what you think

Faust, your dummy is absolutely great in the sketch! #:-)
Nice to start a morning with a good laugh!

Nice pose with the sniper figure. It seems to need some finer wrinkles, though. May I suggest that you use a friend to pose for you with clothing similar material or thickness to your sniper outfit, take digipics from all angles and use that as a reference?
Just an idea, I know it´s hard to come up with the wrinkles without reference!

Hello Envar

there still is a lot to do on the man. today I go further in the detailing
the pictures wich you see now is the rough version
all the wrinkels will be filed and as reference I use pictures from shooting
soldiers (have plenty of them)
after that there will be an extensive hour of miliputting to get all the cracks and other
irregularities out
than it can be painted.

Thanks for the good comments

Howdy FAUST,
Looks sweet (thought you'd only use commercial hands boots and head?) The bulkiness of the winter uniform is well captured with the clay.
One niggle only wiht he idea: a gap through which he can climb in and out will be too big and therefore to conspiquous (opvallend) needs some other cover from corrugated sheet or planks or something like that.

I don't get much scared by the idea of adapting soldiers to make them look better, but making your own figures... ? Phew ! You take it one step further here. Looks good. Work on the folds and wrinkles and that'll be one good (and cheap) sniper !

well thank you generalfailure

I really had no experience on sculpting my own figures. And when I started I thought this would be something that took days and days and in the end I could throw it away to think of something else to built for the contest.
But no, actually the sculpting went quite well and the result as it`s now in the Photoalbum at MSN was achieved within an hour
As reference for the sizes and lenghts I took another sniper from the DML set to compare things like the upperbody, the arms, legs and more.
the gun, leftarm, head, boots and the righthand were stolen from the scratchbox while that was a bit harder to make.
In the future I`m going to do a lot more than this because I found out that it`s a lot easier to do than I thought.

more Photo`s will be posted at the album this evening

hey golikell
I thought it over and what you said about the hide out it will become quite high

so I thought about making the hideout a bit more narrow
if you look at it from the fron you`ll see a sort of triangular shape
on top of the opening of the hide out there will be a white cloth that hangs a little down
the gunbarrel will rest at a folded white cloth that will go up in the snow.
on top of the shelter still will be the wooden planks, stones and other debries
to let it look like a pile of rubble.

wow. Very nice, would you think about writing an article on how you made your figure?

well that`s a quite good idea
Maybe if I write an article about this I could take out the fright people have for scratching their own figures.
I`m also still a beginner in this but yeah why not

great Idea start writing immediately

I'm looking forward with much anticipation to the article and more pictures of the dio as it progresses.
The word you're looking for instead of puppet is 'dummy', or, if you want to get fancy, 'mannequin' or perhaps even 'decoy.' In any case, I really like the idea, and the execution.
