I was just wondering if the number of posts for a member are limited to specific forums, or if every post one makes to the site is counted. Reason being, I've noticed after my last six posts or so, my number of posts hasn't gone up, and I've posted in several different forums. Not a big deal really, just wondering...

after this post...my number increased by one...go figure...

Yep, Junk Drawer, Buy/Sell etc., don't count. It helps to discourage posting for rank!

The reason posts don't count in the JD is because they are unrelated to modeling in general. They are pretty much just fun throw away posts. The motivation behind the posts in the "buy & sell" forum not counting is to keep established members of the site from getting scammed by "drive by posters." (Thanks Rob for the phrase) Theory being that if you have a high post count you can be trusted and aren't just visiting the site to sell things.

It was my idea not to have buy/sell/trade posts not count. One reason is as stated above. Another reason was so we could delete old outdated posts without effecting people's post counts. We are working on an idea to have old b/s/t posts automatically delete after a set period of time (6 months or a year).

I have to say this though, after being on several forums with visible post counts, this forum is definitely the most decent one of the lot. There arent any "power hungry" people that have the fake perception that the rank matters in here. None that i have seen anyway.

Thanks for all the explanations guys, especially from the "staffers."

I figured that was the case, but just wanted to be sure, as I continue to learn the in's-and-out's of the site.

Those are some solid reasons for limiting the posts to specific forums, and I for one appreciate the effort that goes into keeping this site top-notch. Thanks!
