I have read a lot of Arnhem books and a couple of them where excellent as reference material. I would like to mention three of them....these three are the best for reference purposes imho :

Arnhem 1944 by Martin Middlebrook
Arnhem by Gen. R.E. Urquhart
Arnhem 17-26 september 1944 by Christopher Hibbert

All of them contain numerous detailed situations and... are historical correct.

I dont think I can add much to what has already been said.

I dont think a PIAT could 'brew up' a Tiger or its bigger brother - but it could certainky disable one by knocking off a drive wheel or by shattering a track link.

Best of luck with the build.

Si36 -

Hopefully you got as much from this great support and references as I did. Many thanks to "Eagle", "Henk", "tutdiesel", and "bobcat" for all your info. Looks like I'll be doing some additions to my WWII references very soon. This is another example of the best things about Armorama seen here with all the help and support available from terrific people. Thanks again,

Ola Guys

a lot of excellent books are posted here but I kinda miss one. It is written by Geoffrey Powell who was a British Para of the 1st British Airborne and the title is
Men At Arnhem

It definately is one of the best accounts of the battle I have read. completely out of the soldiers view.

For the German view of Market Garden, you can't beat "It NeverSnows in September" by Kershaw. For a pictorial history I'd also recommend "Arnhem 1944" by Janusz Piekalkiewicz. There's also a new book by William Buckingham called "Arnhem 1944", which takes a fresh approach to the operation & makes some valid new points (it's in the cheapo bookshops for a couple of quid, well worth it!).

Everyone has many different opinions for the PIAT. Personally, as an infantryman, I can tell you there are things we will and won't do. Arnhem was a desperate situationb for the Paras. I really admire their tenacity. If you really want to do Red Devils at Arnhem, Have them engaging a tiger or KT from the rear or above. This will demonstrate the toughness of the Paras, and the desparation of the situation. As a grunt, I can tell you, I would have engaged a KT with a PIAT in Arnhem. At least try to stop them.
