BED...
Well six hours and three drill bits later... I finally came up with this:

It's a good thing I don't plan on making all my beds this way! As you all know Mintueman and I have been collaborating (and having a great time doing it) on furniture building for the past few months. He is a talented craftsman, who has inspired as well as taught me a few trick along the way. He beat me to the punch line with my own idea. At last here is mine. My brass bed made from an assortment of brass wire, brass tube, brass pins, brass beads and a few PE leaves. I would love to have feed back on this. It was a lot of time spent building (learning as I went) this little creature. I think I could cut the time back to a couple of hours now. Thanks for your time everyone.

Paul

Say, you know, you could probably sell those! That is awesome! In fact, that would look great in my diorama! Do you think you could give us some instructions/directions? Thanks for your time, and once again, awesome!

Paul,
At least you only went through three bits. The bed is awesome the PE leaves add a great element to the bed. Great use of pins for the connections gives it a very authentic look, want to trade? You have created a little masterpiece, well done. Single malt on me, OK I'll just drink one for you as well.

Cheers

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Instructions ....

Well, yes there will be sooner or later. Minuteman and I are planning on some toutorials/features on our furniture builds in the (near future?).

Thanks Jay, you serve as good inspiration and good friendly competition.

The bed will be completed with a mattress, springs, and bedding of course. My friends at the LHS think we (Jay) are insane! Next in the line up more furniture and RUGS!

Congrats Paul that has come up well!
Used tiny brass rod once
(hollow) wanted to use it for my Sherman but couldn't cut it without 'squashing' it. Any tips?
Cheers

Great job, very clean work. Is it soldered or glued?
There's only one thing that looks a bit odd to me, but that might be the angle of the picture. The legs look a bit short. It looks as if the bed is very low. Other than that, it's beautiful. Love the headboard.

Cheers

That looks great - what sort of scale is the bed? and how are you planning to use it?

Would look great in a bombed building!

Thank you all...

The bed is all glued, with with contact cylo glue. All major joints are are pinned for added strength. Solder is not advisable as it leaves the heat marks, too much clean up on something too fragile... The glue also acts like a sealer to preserve the bright brass color. Also a big plus!

Cutting fine brass rod is simply done by rolling the tube and xacto blade across it until it cuts clear through. Use a good base for cutting, I actually use a piece of glass as my work space when cutting, painting, and gluing stuff together. A little clean up may be required on the ends to smooth it. Once you get a feel for it you won't even have to sand the end.

Henk- there are no feet on the bed yet, and should rise up at least a 1/16" when I find what I want to use for the feet.

Goose- the scale is 1/35th.

Thanks again...

Paul

Great job ...I'm guessing you are a Dylan fan? Have you considered using those pearl head pins ( for corsages and stuff) they would look like the porcelin feet I have seen on tubs and beds.?

Now THAT is too cool. Was this a solder job, or did you take the CA glue route? Really a wonderful effort, and great result.

Here is an update

The bed now has a matress with a dust ruffle, to accompany the bed are some rugs I have been putzing with this afternoon. The rugs are made with an ink jet printable iron on transfer media.

Again comments are most welcomed.

Thanks

Paul,

Nice job with the rugs, they look incredible. What did use for fabric and is the fringe part of the fabric or an additional attached piece? Really very impressive.
