Hi Chaps. This is the first stages of the base for my DUKW. The scene is Scicily. The base is built up with poster board. then detailed with cork and balsa wood. The window is aleft over from a MniArt building and the roof tiles are from Kincali. Painted with Mr. Surfacer 500 to smooth out and also to check for imperfections. I´ll add more pictures as it progresses. Any comment or critic are welcome.

Hi Frank,
This looks very promissing! I love the building and warf, they look very nice. Great combination of materials (I just have to give the cork method a try )
Also looking forward to your DUKW, very interesting vehicle I think.
Keep it up!
regards
Mark

Thanks very much mark for the kind words Mark. After seeing some of the great works by Carlos and cheyenne, its hard not to be tempted to try out the cork method.
I should have linked to the already finished DUKW ... Amphibs campaign - DUKW

The building is great. Very well done.
I'd like to see a top photo to see about the dreaded rule of no parallelizm
I guess I'm very engrained in not seeing parallel lines with the base.
I have nothing but respect for your work, so I'll be quiet and wait.
I do like the brick wall, very subtle well done plaster work. NICE.

I think the building and the DUKW look great. Once painted, the house should look excellent. I did notice that the roof line looks a little "off" This should be a cool little dio when finished. Keep us posted.

Beautiful work there, Frank, both on the building & the DUKW. Very impressive. Is that a dry canal, or what? And where will the DUKW be placed?

Hi Scott and Brian. Thanks for your nice comments. Regarding parallelity and the roof line ..... the warf and house are not parallel to the base, and unfortunately the roof line is the only visible result from this angle!
The base has the width constraints of my display cabinet, and has to be long enough to hold the DUKW (and will be quite compact when finished), so its not an extreme angle. If the house was parallel to the base edge, the roof line would be parallel also, but as you can see, there is an angle. The next time I take pictures, I´ll include one from above or from the side so this can be seen clearer. Cheers.

Very nice work thus far Frank. I like the recessed door it really does give the house a nice "3-D" feel to it. With your excellent earlier work on water in the canal this is sure to be a beauty

Everything is looking very fine, good detailing on both. The underlying stone work, always a nice touch. I will be anxious to see where you are going with this one. Give us a clue for a storyline? What figures do you think you will be using?

Thanks for all your kind comments ...much appreciated. Two more pictures to answer some of your questions! Ive finished building the wall for the background, but its not fixed in place yet. The shrine/chapel is a Plusmodel item ... trying to keep with the Sicily theme! Also included is an image of the figures that will be used. 4 Verlinden US tankers and a Corpus US mechanic (middle figure). The base colours have been made with the airbrush!
