More pics of my amphibs entry, which I also wanted to enter as a January's MOM.
Zvezda/ex-dragon BTR70 build OOB, except for wire antenae, mesh screens over engine hatches and one little wire grab handle on left side engine acces hatch.
Kit went together well, although I had to use some putty to cover numerous but shallow sink marks on the upper hull. I also tried to add some muddy texture to the bottom of the AFV, but I didnt liked the result. Its kitty litter, crushed and put though sieve, still the particles were too big IMO. Well, another modeling expirience I guess. Vehicle is painted with humbrol enamels and detailed using citadel acrylics. I messed up the last light dusting layer. Mixed a little of humbrol light sand with their matt cote and sprayed it on the model to see smal spots of sand on it . Another lesson learned... It was also the first time I used Humbrol Decal Fix which worked just great. It softened decals but without making it fragile at all.
Now a word on the beat up looks of this BTR. I wanted to depict BTR during Russian/Afghan war, poorly maintained and never repainted . I like how it came out, gives it a character IMHO. I'm also aware that some of you may consider it tastlesly treated. Guess you cant'' make evryone happy
Cheers

Great job. Love the rust stains makes it look poorly maintained.
Exellent work.

Wonderfull model... I like it alot; the weathering in particular. Have you thought of adding figures to it? I noticed some new Russian figures from Tank (there was a news story about them couple of days ago here on Armorama); perhaps you would find those usefull?

Thanks for comments guys!
Maki, I thought about adding figures, but I was considering converting Zvezdas Spetznaz figs into some AFV riders. Tank tankers look interesting but they're for 1993-2004, that may mean I'll have to backdate them, but I'm not an expert. Also Zvezda figures are readily available in PL and probably cheaper than the tank ones. Anyway thanks for mentioning it
Cheers

Fantastic model Pedro!! I was working on this kit a while back and got a bit frustrated with the quality of the kit. Perhaps this will help kick start me into getting back on it.

Fantasitc job! Now THAT looks like a real vehicle. Put a good background behind and it would be hard to discern from a real photo.
It is hard to tell if you did a wash/drybrush. If so, it is suttle enough to not stand out.
Some might say the rust is overdone, but I for one love that look.
Only nit-pic I have is: would a vehicle of this weight have bulging tires? And if so, any plans to replicate that and how would you go about it?
Keep up the fine work.

Hi Keith, thanks for kind words!
As for the bulging, it is just slightly noticeable in the photos of a real thing. I've hadn't got any particular plans of doing it, but if I was to do it then probably I'd have to heat the tire and press it on a flat surface. No practice in this matter though. Dont want to do it on a finished model
Thanks for the idea.
Cheers

Wow! What an excellent model.
I love the big Russian BTR's, to me they look like what an army vehicle should look like-big and ugly. Your weathering is excellent and I can just picture this on a muddy road in Eastern Europe. I reckon it would look even better with a crew member or someone in the turret, perhaps looking up into the sky.
Keep up the superb work.

Hey Grzegorz Zięcina
Awsome Btr-70 you have there. I really like the muddy bottom. And the Gren launcher on the turret was it in the kit or not?? Nicely build I would say. Even the weathering is pretty good.
Keep up the good work.
Greetings Roel

VERY nice work. Really nice to see that Eastern European armor. You really captured the look of the BTR-70 well.

Great looking BTR-70. The AGS-17 gives it a nice touch. The rust effect is outstanding.

Thanks for kind replies chaps!
Rob: I think I'll be working on some figures on the weekend for this monster, and yeah it's big and ugly but it realy suits him
Roel: Yes, the grenade launcher was in the kit, and is a nice , much nicer compared to the zvezdas own effort foun in the box or rusian spetznaz figures.
Erik: I knew that Just after few suggestions I wanted to work on some figs on the weekend and then to upload a picture to MOM gallery with them onboard the BTR.
Happy modeling!

Great looking figure, Pedro. Only thing is that he looks almost to "clean" compared to his vehicle. He is most certainly not taking much pride in the looks and maintanance of his vehicle, so why should he take care of himself? :-)
However, this is so far my favourite vehicle. You just have to love that beaten look. Great job!!!
Cheers

Hi there,
Looks really good, do you think you might have just overdone the rusting a little. Rust on every weld? Of course depending upon the setting that might be so I'm no expert, just a thought.

Won't be original, your model is stunning of realism.
Very nice build that deserves being a MOM entry for sure as there is not enough modern armor to see around. (Just my opinion )
Your commander is really too clean as Erik says, give him a dusty or greasy look just to match his poorly maintained BTR.

Erik and Olivier: I'll try to 'weather' him to match his BTR, just never done it to the figure
Olivier, I Guess that I'm becoming 'modern armor' modeler out of wwII fan Dunno for how long though :-)
Al: The setting is somwhere in Afghanistan 1979-1989, so I think It might be a bit beat up, depending on time it was in service. That said I took some artistic license on the weathering.
Thanks for your kind words guys!
Cheers

Dear Pedro
Well i have to confess, it is a really nice piece of kit you have. I just post an other btr-70 for the Mom
Jan.
check here
Seb's BTR-70
Different version but with the same hatch opened,
but you really masterize it.
Just one comment if i can ?
Using PE eduard will give you more details, just fast comment but you really dont need it
Can you give me the reference of your figurine???
Can you give me more information how you did the rust?
Really great
Cheers

Just a thought but maybe you could give him a tan suit instead of the black one. Saw a lot of these in Afghanistan.

Very nice, I too thought that with a realistic background this one would be convincing.
I agree that the figure is too clean, as well as the spare wheel.
