Dear All
Just finish my humvee from Tamiya with Seats and cuppola turret form MIG.
Normal weathering oil paints and pastels powders.

Any comments are welcome

Looks great, Seb. But I find the bottle and papers stuck in the .50's ammo feed box to be unrealistic. I don't think any machine-gunner would risk a belt foul and the resultant weapon jam.

Great effort on this humvee seb.

Im currently making a M1046 as well so im getting quite intimate with this humvee. Learnt something new from your photos as well.....i didnt realise there were cuppolas which opened as a hatch like the one you showed, always thought they folded in an opened position.

I do agree with David though, back in my army days, we wouldnt fit anything else in the ammo box apart from the live ammo itself. More safety precaution than anything else.

I also noticed you painted the rear antenna with the light sand colour. Shouldnt this be semi gloss black colour or sometimes even Nato green?

As mentioned at the start, great effort and i like the way you paid attention to detail.

Hi Seb,
except the similar remark about stuff in the ammo box, you model is great. I like the details here and there that give your model a living look.
I have only one comment though, it seems that you M2 has got two cradles, one molded on the MG itself and another looking like PE part.
Where did you get your barbed wire? It really looks real.

Dear All

Thanks for the comments

@JAZZA, Well concerning the cuppola it is not a M1046 cuppola but the up armoured one from MIG that why you can put open like that.

@ Andrew and Olivier and Jazza, concerning the .50, i found on web the following picture for my inspiration you right i forget to put a seperation betwenn the water and the ammo belt.

@ Olivier concerning the craddle you are again right please check the photo below. it seems that the M2 is mounted on the craddle from the grenade launcher (see picture below).

Concerning the barded wire it is a verlinden item.

Thank for looking

Great model, Seb.
I seem to remember reading in 'Generation Kill' (which followed the Marines through the first part of OIF)that they painted (or taped) over all the reflectors and glass that they could to cut down on reflections and removed the rear view mirrors completely.
Love the cluttered look of the best.
Does anyone know if the struts for the cargo door are hydraulic? I was thinking about adding some stowage on the top of it on my M1046, and was worried about the strength you'd need to lift it if they're not.

Dear Tom
You are right for the rear hacth the struts are hydraulic but as you can see you can attach a spare wheel on it and even more stuff

Without a doubt you have got the effect of a war weary warrior off to a tee, the vehicle actually look s lived in and you could be expecting a crew to roll up at any moment.

I have had a pack of the Verlinden barbed wire in my cupboard for years, your usage makes me think that I must get it out.

Happy New Year,

John

Hey Seb. Awesome build. I like that you duplicated the pic even though some of the guys say it's unrealistic with some of the placements it's good to see that unrealism is still being used in reality

Nice job.

One of those models where you spot some extra detail evertime you look.

It too was about to comment on the water bottle on the 50cal box then saw the pic you posted , btw is that a tube of Pringles on the photo :-) :-) :-)

Just goes to show that when something is not considered the norm, it never means it's never happen or has been done before.

Like once it was said that I should not have painted the water can brown because it is not very prototype. Well, turns out I saw the same brown water can in a humvee in a picture I got off the net.

In short - you can never say never

He He, pretty hard to make any comments when you counter attack with those excellent pics. :-)

Did you change the original kit radio with a Sinccars?

Cheers

Dear All
thanks again for your comments and supports, well i dont have so much inspiration :-) , so just searching on the web and just have fun building the kit and just dump a lot of crap at the rear of the humvee for those that are going to build it.

@ Erik you are right, Sincgars radio is coming from Pro Art Model, special thanks to Gino (heavyarty), he help me on that with my last post.

cheers

Seb,
When you get those SINCGAR's and are ready to install them, go here:

SINCGAR MOUNT Pictures

I took some pictures of the mount on one of the Hummers we have out back. I think we still might have a SINCGAR or two waiting for pick up. If they are still there next week, I will take a picture of them inside the rack for ya. Don't follow the Pro Art instructions, they are a bit wrong.

Great job by the way.

Just the photos i was looking for as well. Hey Pete, any clues if the colour for the SINCGAR remains as NATO green in a desert coloured humvee? Im assuming they arent repainted to be refitted into the desert humvees.

Do they come in black colour too? Preliminary searches on google pulled up a couple that were black but im not sure if they are used by the US troops.

Would you also happen to have photos on the radio when its fully mounted? Im just about to fit mine in and would love the reference photos.

Sorry Seb!

Yup Jeremy, they are all green no matter if its a sand or NATO 3 color vehicle. As far as black, I haven't seen a black one as far as the US Army is conerned.

I'll take some pictures next week of them mounted in the racks and all cabled up. I didn't bring my camera with me.

Whew just a well i asked as i was about to cement mine into the model.

The reference picts i found were ones similar to this.

If the image dont show, click SINCGARS

Im guessing then that civilians probably use this version then? Any ideas?

EDIT: Actually if i looked closer, it sorta looks OD....i think.

The antennae mount should be OD and the coil should be flat black. The antenna should be od as well. The model is missing the antenna itself. The mount on the model is more representive of the mounts used for the AN/PRC 46/47 series radios.

Dear All
Nice discution concerning the Sincgars, very usefully but i had allready the impression of some mistakes from Pro Art indication. I found pictures also from Frenchy gallery if i remimber well.

@ Epi thanks for the nice pictures of the Sincgars radio.
I painted it Nato green as i found on the web and small black dots to represented the keyboard, then i weather it with raw umber oil paint on the sides only, and i brushed with metalic the rear. i hope this will help some of you.

@ All, i need to know the exact length of the antenna to glue on on the mound and then i will paint it

Any clue of the lenght of the antenna????:-?

Thanks

Nice truck. Provided me the feeling of a truck that had been through contact and difficulty, and still had a ways to go, until it could be dropped into the stable for repairs and a cleanup.

I know others have mentioned things like the windshield being "combat fixed" with a piece of clear plastic and some tape and storing things in the ammo can as incorrect or inaccurate, but both of those items put that mental flair into the vehicle that gave me the above impression.

Only technical issue I had with it, and mostly it's from experience, and not based on any books, is the turret. In the vehicle you have depicted, you have a heavier turret from an M1114 model, which is not normally mounted in the other models. Requires a decent amount of modification to the system in the turret roof, as it is designed to reduce possible brass jamming in the traverse of the turret, and also support heavier equipment(It needs no replacement to mount the LRAS observation system).

But, that's my only beef. I've seen overpainted antenna mounts, uncommon and frowned upon, but I've seen it.
