Hello All,
PITERPANZER / Monte
Not that it would make much difference, but the Sherman is 1/24th and not 1/25th. Would like to keep everything in the same scale and $195.00 is out of the question for me. It's just too much money. I'm not a collector. I try to build and keep things within reason (for me).
I'll have to stick with the smaller scale. Large scale is nice, but I've got too much invested in 1/35th to take a serious attempt at the larger scale. I have some 1/25th and 1/16th. May build what I have left or may just try and get rid of the unbuilt kits.
I appreciate all the information that everyone has provided.
I think it comes down to looking at T-bone steak on a Chopped Steak budget.
It would be nice, it's just that at this point it's not practical for me.
Again, thanks to all who took time to help out.
Regards,
Joe

Quoted TextAlso, the 1/24 Bandai kits DO NOT include rubber road wheels or metal intake grills.
Would you like me to send you pictures of my non exsistant rubber road wheels and inake screens? I'd hate to tread on your difinitive knowledge.
OK, smart guy...you weren't talking about the big 1/15 Bandai Tiger I by any chance, were you? I believe it did come with rubber tires and metal grills. If not, then precisely which 1/24 Bandai kits were you talking about? Your post indicated that you were referring to the 1/24 Bandai King Tiger and Panther kits, which do not have rubber tires (of course, the KT doesn't) and metal grills.
My "definitive knowledge" is simply based on what I've built and seen. Your "definitive knowledge" may vary!
And yes, pictures would be nice!

No Shado I was not refering to the 1/15 scale kits. Since the King Tiger has steel wheels I must be refering to the Panther, in 1/24, just so we're clear.
I don't know what kit's you've seen but the kit I have does have rubber tires for the road wheels AND metal screens for the intakes.
You are intitled to your opinion on these kits, but you might want to be absolutely sure of your information before you start correcting people.
My offer of pictures is still open if you want them.

OK, so we're both definitely talking about the Bandai 1/24 scale Panther G kit.
As I mentioned before, I do have the 1/24 King Tiger, which obviously doesn't have rubber tires (nor does the kit have metal grills).
I do not have the Panther in my possession, but as I mentioned before, I don't think it has rubber tires or metal grills either, a conclusion based upon close personal inspection of unbuilt and built kits. If I wasn't sure of what I was saying, I wouldn't have corrected you.
However, you claim to have the kit in your possession now, and also claim that it indeed has rubber tires and metal grills, and you say can produce the photos to prove it.
So, you win!
I guess I'll just have to update my "definitive information" on this one!
And yes, as I mentioned before, I'd love to see the pictures.

Oh by the way Shado,
I just checked my King Tiger kit and there seems to be some non existant intake screens in that kit also.
Plus I seem to have a 1/25 scale Sturmtiger conversion for the Tamiyia kit if you're interrested in another argument.

Never was looking for an argument, Monte. I was simply stating what I believed to be correct at the time, which you have since proven to be incorrect. Evidently my powers of observation and recollection are not as reliable as I had expected.
I stand corrected.
Sorry!
My KT, however, definitely does not have grills. Must be a problem with my kit. Lucky you! Build and enjoy.

No problem Shado, it's done.
Either your kits were pilfered of those items if you got them second hand, or my kits just have bonus goodies. Who knows, could be anything.
Although I do like Tamiyia's kits I still believe these Bandai kits to be superior. IMHO that is.

And I do like the Bandai kits!
You know, it's really sad that 1/24 or 1/25 never really caught on...I've always thought it was the perfect scale for armor. You get a nice feel of the power and size of the real vehicles without the "where the hell am I gonna put this damn thing" factor of the 1/16 kits. Plenty of room for detail, and plenty of automobiles in the same scale to run over!

Funny you mention that, old 1/24 car kits are some of the sources I use to scratch build extra detail parts for my tanks.

Wait there's more!
Also in the shameless plug category, I plan to release a 1/24 M4A3 75mm Sherman (high bustle with loader's hatch) in the early fall of this year. Something for all you KT and Panther guys to shoot at! It features opening hatches, moving suspension, individual track links and (if I can find an inexpensive vendor) a turned aluminum barrel. It will be in addition to at least three conversion/accessory kits that are mostly aimed at Allied fans. These kits will include many weapons and field gear never offered in this scale before such as a complete SAS jeep conversion for the 1/24 Hasagawa Jeep.
There will be Axis kits as well but they will be released late in the year around Christmas. This will include a Zundapp 750 with sidecar and at least a small kit of field gear and equipment. I've also already patterned the radios for a radio Kubelwagen conversion although it will have to wait it's turn as I've got too much work for this year already.

Yeah! 1/25th is the way to go!! That scale is so much nicer to work with, and it looks more convincing too. Maybe, with enough requests , we can get some of these mfgs. to produce a better selection for us larger scale fanatics. Sure would be nice. Glad to see Mr. Banner taking the initative . Best of luck!!

Frank, you perfectly summed up what I'd like to see. Manufacturers such as Hasagawa with their incredible 1/24 Willy's Jeep and Kubelwagen kits should be encouraged to offer more in this scale. I figured the best way to do that was to get more people turned on to these highly detailed kits and modeling in this scale with some conversions and accessories to show what is possible. Sort of break the ice a bit.
Hopefully others will join in once they see the field opening up. For example I have some basic diorama pieces that I'll be offering but there are many others out there with MUCH greater skills that I'd love to see offer things in this scale ( MiniArt! ). If in five or six years LSA just becomes "some old dude that used to make resin stuff in this scale" out of a field of lots of manufacturers and casters then I'd be really happy.
Until then, it looks like it's up to a few of us ( Piterpanzer is a true pioneer in this field) to get things rolling.
Thanks again,
Jim
