Hello my friends!
I came up with an idea yesterday evening, to build a bit of "what if" dio with some american WWII soldiers and one ore two Tyranids from the GW range, for example this.
I would like the setting to be early fifties in US, but I have no idea on wich kind of environment, like a farm, inside a city or perhaps at a gas station or an industry. The story would be the soldiers sneaking around looking for the alien without knowing he´s right behind them... The title something like "I thought I heard some noise over here..."
Any comments, suggestions or ideas about this would be very much appreciated!
Cheers Andreas

I don't see any problem with it and personally think its a interesting idea. I brought up a sort of similar idea for a campaign of "What ifs" but with a military theme of plausible scenarios, i.e. Pershings and Stalins fighting over Poland in 1946 or Marines fending off Japanese Offensives in California. The idea didn't really go anywhere though. Good luck with yours!

read Harry Turtledove's new book. In it the Japanese invade Hawaii. You could do a dio with a bunch of WW2 Japanese soldiers running downhill on kiluea or something like that when it is erupting. one WW2 Japanese guy on fire running downhill like an idiot.

Hi Andreas,
Sounds like a very interesting idea,a little different than your run of the mill type dio.A kind of a War of the worlds type thing.Just an idea from a non-expert,but it would be cool if you had a G.I with a flame thrower trying to burn one of the aliens to a crisp.Don't know how difficult it would be to make a life like flame ,but hey,it's only an idea!Good luck mate,Shay
Edit:The flame thrower idea may not work in the Gas Station setting!Hehe

I like the concept.
Whenever I think Tyranids, I think tight closed spaces, a la Space Hulk. What about a suburban shopping mall dio?
good luck with it, whatever you end up doing!!
Cheers

Thanks for input guys! Much apreciated
@ Shay, The idea with the flamer is a good one, it´s something I´d like to try... We´ll see if I can fit it into this dio!
@ wizard179 and David, Both shopping mall and sewers is nice ideas! The problem is that I need reference photos...
Anybody with pictures from American fifties please tell me! Everything is of intrest so I can easier capture the feeling.
Cheers Andreas

Hi Andreas,
As someone who grew up in the U.S. in the fifties, your idea sounds just like the old "B" movies I used to watch on TV. Typically, they were thinly veiled references to the "Atomic Age", where some bug becomes huge after being exposed to radiation.
These movies were usually set in the deserts of the southwest (most of the nukes were tested out there) in some small town cut off from civilization. Soldiers would be dispatched and, of course, none of their weapons would kill the super-radioactive- bug.
A gas station (great possibilities for imminent huge explosions) would be appropriate, set in the desert.
For pictures, search the net for 1950's American movies or something like that. Most, if not all, these movies were in black and white.
HTH,
Barry

Thanks Barry! You put your finger on it, that B movie feeling is exactly what I want to capture. I might have been a bit brainwashed as I´ve played lots of Fallout 2 the last months :-)
