Thanks in advance

I remember of a Scimitar troop from The Blues and Royals with a Samson ARV to support them.

Blues & Royals had 2 scorpions and 2 scimitars, with a samson supporting.
There was also a centurion BARV at San Carlos, it was mainly used to ferry stores and personel between landing craft and the shore.

If you can find the Osprey New Vanguard on the CVR series, there is a plate and some material in the text about the Falklands.

Peter
According to my references the Blues & Royals embarked for the Falklands with four Scorpions four Scimitars & one Sampson. These were organised into two troops with a standard mix of two Scorpions & two Scimitars each.
Here are a couple of reference shots that I have that may help you. Sorry about the quality of the shots btw.
This is a CVR(T) of the Blues & Royals at Wireless Ridge
I don't have a location for the next two sorry.
Cheers

Note that the Scorpions have the three barrel smoke grenade dischargers.
They also had the early style bins on the left hull side and turret.
They used the early style engine grills...not the ones in the Scorpion kits.
Use the early style drive sprockets and idler wheels in the kit.
A variety of ammo boxes were bolted to the hull wading screen base.
Darren is correct, there were 4 Scimitars and 4 Scorpions deployed.
There were also 2 CETs deployed.

hi all
the CET's Combat Engineer Tractor was in the Falklands two went from Bovington camp.
i personaly know all of the crews and one of them who is my best mate. i nearly went myself.
one broke down towards the end, the other was still active after the war.
what they did was some incridable work and actualy travelled more miles then any other vehicle there.
one was used to dig in all the Ammo dumps and gun & rapiar emplacements, other big holes etc.

Hi,
The 4 Scorpions and 4 Scimitars came from 3 and 4 Troop, B Squadron, Blues and Royals.
Here's a link to an interesting site that contains details of some of their actions in support of the paras and several photo's of the vehicles.
http://www.knox.army.mil/center/ocoa/ArmorMag/so99/5head99.pdf
Ps. Seen any New AFV Club Kits recently!!!
Cheers

The Falklands saw two BARV's deployed. The BARV was part of the assault squadrons for both Fearless and Intrepid, their duties being to assist landing craft to un-beach as the normal landings are done on a retreating tied, and to assist stranded vehicles ashore.
These were the largest and heaviest vehicles deployed during the Falklands. Based on the Centurion MBT.
The earlier claim that the BARV was stranded in deep water is not correct, this in fact happened prior to the Falklands at Browndown Beach Hampshire when she was totally submerged by seawater.
The BARV I drove was off Fearless and went ashore only to break the crust of the beach and become belly down for the rest of the war breaking a drive sprocket in the process.
The tracks on the BARV are reversed to allow grip in reverse whiclst pulling vehicles ashore. In the west Indies, Aruba, we managed to rip the front off an LCVP whilst pulling her ashore.
A truly antiquated piece of machinery but great fun to drive and work on with her RR Merlin engine and 26,000cc's
The BARV's have been superceeded by the HIPPO and are now up for sale at £18,000 each might get one for the front lawn.

As said above, to tps of 2x Scorpion CVR(T) & 2 x Scimitar CVR(T) with 1 Samson ARV. Engineers had a pir of CEV tractors based on Scorpion Components. These spent most of their time in the logistic support role.

Bison decal set for scimitar contains markings for 23c which is the subject of plate A in osprey scorpion vangaurd book. ammo boxes were bolted all over the vehicles especially Rarden boxes Accurate Armour does a nice rarden ammo box set cast off make a nice upper hull conversion (available from Scale link ) & Cromwell models make a nice detail set including hatches & 3 barrel smoke dischargers . Jaguar made all of these in a backdate / conversion kit for the scimitar Beatiful but hard to get hold of . Good luck with the project cheers Pat

You guys are great, but I think I'm the one who let the team down!
I was orginally going to use the AA Scimitar but discovered it was a late model and somewhat different that the Falklands version, so I copped out and built a BAOR Scimitar on exercise instead. I still have a nother Scimitarr (AFV) which will be a Falklands early model, and once my sculpting skills evolve, some Royal Marines complete with those big heavy rucks!
Below is the finished model still needs to be attached to a blackbase.
Cheers and thanks

Hi Peter,
You maybe able to still find the Aeroscale kits lurking in peoples collections, that contains lots of bits to backdate the CVR[T]'s to those I remember in the late 70's, early 80's and for 'ruck' read 'bergan'.
John
p.s. Has the carrier pigeon made it across the pond yet?
