Hiya, Folks,

Just curious... I'm awaiting the Trumper LAV-25 in the mail and noticed that both Lion Roar and Voyager make aftermarket sets for the Trumper LAV-25...

Being as I have a (20) week old infant, I don't have oodles and oodles of modeling time these days, but I would like to put in a little extra detail. Who makes the better aftermarket set --- particularly for a modeler looking to add a little extra detail but not looking to go insane...

Have a Dragon 251 Wurf. rocket launcher sitting in the box on the table, daring me to start it, but I may just build the LAV first as it looks to be a quicker build (unless, of course, I make my life more complicated by bogging myself down with an aftermarket set)...

And while I am asking, the Legend resin gear set for the LAV looks great --- does anyone have it and is it worth the money...?

Thanks, folks! Much obliged...

Much Aloha,

Johnny B.

I have the LAV 25 with the Eduard PE set and will be getting the Legend set of stowage someday when I'm ready to build this vehicle/ The eduard PE comes with PE for the LAV and PE for the figures such as straps and the like and I really look forward to using it. The Legend stowage is awesome if it's anyhing like their IDF stowage set! Highly recommended in my honest opinion as well as the Eduard PE set.!!!!

Can't comment on the LionsRoar set, but I have the Voyager set for the Trumpeter kit, and it's a a nice set, looks pretty complete, althought I'm no expert. Also got the Eduard set for the Italeri kit, also looks pretty good, and I imagine a lot will be fine for the Trumpeter kit. I also have an Eduards Zoom set for the Italeri kit, this contains just basicly the mesh grills.

The Legends stowage is a nice set, just wish they would have included a spare tire.

Also this walkaround:
http://www.primeportal.net/apc/don_pics/m1047a_walk_1.htm
Is of the actual vehicle in the kit (same s/n markings etc...) so you can see what the real thing looks like

Are you sure ? If so, then Trumpeter has forgotten to include the new muffler
However that may be these pics are still useful !
Talking about LionRoar and Voyager PE sets and Legend's stowage set, all are currently available on LuckyModel with free shipping

If you are interested, I'm currently 95% done with the new muffler master I've scratchbuilt. It is based on reference pics from all angles shot close up. I've casted it already, and just need to get the front attachment done. Email if interested.

I wouldn't say Trumpeter has gotten that wrong with the muffler. There are MANY sources that have the style of muffler that comes in the kit. I have yet to see the source that has your style of muffler, though I'd be interested in seeing it. I wouldn't go so far as to say Trumpeter's version is wrong!!!

Trumpeter's LAV-25 is nicely done and pretty accurate. The muffler you're referencing is a recent modification to vehicles in the field - and not something that Trumpeter "missed" when they produced their model. You can model an earlier (Operation Desert Storm like I am), current or scratchbuild your own Muffler to reflect the latest vehicles pretty easily.

It is a nice kit and just right for adding your own details and interior if you desired.

Thanks for the info and input, guys --- much appreciated! And thanks for the tip on working the rear hull plate, Rodders!

Gotta admit, I rarely do modern armor (I prefer WWII Pacific and Vietnam-era stuff), but the LAV-25 and forthcoming Stryker kits are irresistable!

Much Aloha and Muy Mahalo, my friends!!

Warriors stated a while back on Missing Lynx that they were going to work on an update/detail set for the Trumpeter LAV 25.

Hopefully it will still be produced.

The figures they have produced for the Trumpeter LAV 25 appear very nice.

For those who plan to buy the Trumpeter LAV-25 in the future buy the revell one instead, it has the muffler and the rear view mirrors. But it comes with no figures though

Sorry, bad advice.

Revell has the old style muffler, not the newer one pictured above with the new thermal shroud. Also, the Revell one is a rebox of the old Italeri LAV-25 with some new decals. It has dimensional issues with the hull and turret, and the running gear and tires are all wrong, among other things. The Trumpeter one is much more accurate and a better all around kit. Getting the Revell one would be a step backwards about 15 years in quality and accuracy. Not advisable at all.

The new thermal shroud is part of the LAV SLEP (Service Life Extension Program) upgrades and is being retrofitted to vehicles as they go through depot level rebuilds. There are still many vehicles out in the force with the older style muffler. More and more are being seen with the new thermal shroud as they come out of rebuild.

Here is one after SLEP mods.

Gino,

Great HUGE image.

Very simple yet effective bar and padlock to secure the rear doors.

Canadian Armoured crewman learned years before the LAV was in service that you could easily give either rear door of an AVGP a hard boot and it would dislodge the combat lock on the inside...then we welded a couple of links of chain to each door handle to attach a padlock.

Yeah, not sure why it is soooo huge, came straight from Prime Portal. Gives good details though.

As always, thanks for the replies, boys!

So, based on your responses, I guess the $64,000 question is: is the Trumpeter kit detailed enough to bypass the Lion Roar or Voyager aftermarket sets altogether?

I'm thinking, if it is only a case of scratching a few small bits to get it accurate, I might go that route...

Thanks again!

Much Aloha,

Johnny B.

PS. Can't wait ta see what you've got in store for Tamiya Con this year, Gino --- you did an awesome job on the old M-42 Duster kit a couple of years ago...great work, as always!

Thanks, but, unfortunately I won't be able to make it this year either. I'll be training Soldiers that weekend. Hope you have a good time there.
