I remember building those old Matchbox armour kits back when I was a kid, and I especially loved the little diorama base that came with them.

My question is, which of the current Revell 1:72/76 range are Matchbox re-pops? And do they all come with the little diorama base?

Thanks

Yes, Revell is repopping the Matchbox kits complete with the diorama base. The newly repackaged single kits are clearly labeled "1/76".

Revell did reissue some Matchbox kits along with a set of vinyl soldiers in "combo-packs". These were listed as 1/72 and not 1/76.

I'll place a list of Matchbox kit number here in a moment.

03211 Sherman Firefly
03212 T-34/76 Model 1940
03213 M24 Chaffee
03214 Sd.Kfz. 234/2 Puma
03215 Sd.Kfz. 124 Wespe
03216 M7 Howitzer Motor Carriage "Priest"
03217 M40 Gun Motor Carriage
03218 Krupp Protze
03219 Morris truck w/ith 17 lb gun and Jeep
03220 Char B.1 bis & Renault Ft-17
03221 Churchill AVRE

Comb-packs
03150 Sd.Kfz. 11, Motorbike and Afrika Troops
03158 PzKpfw II and German Artillery

The Stuart Honey and Comet were both reissued as combo-packs, but I do not know the kit numbers off hand.

I am also not sure if the decal options in the reissues remained the same as the original Matchbox versions. I do know the combo-pack Stuart I got did not contain the markings included in the Matchbox kit.

Hi There
To add to Robin's list above
The Sherman Firefly was in a combo set with Australian infantry (?) and new decals.
The Panzer IV L/70 was in a set with German Pioneers and the original decal sheet.
Both were stated to be 1/72 scale but were Matchbox 1/76 re issues.
Hope this helps
Nick

IMHO I would rather Revell produced their own versions of these vehicles as their standard of detaling is much better than the older Matchbox series. Also I find a consistent 1/72 scale more desirable than mixed 1/72 and 1/76.

They released these kits when they were still just starting their 1/72 scale line. Sort of a way to increase their line without too much up front investment.

The second reissue was due to demand from modelers like you and me. Guys e-mailed them and said why not reissue the old kits? They did and we got some out there now.

They do still issue new kits. The ATF Dingo was the only one they got out that Dragon hadn't trumped them on.
