My old stand by paint for Russian Green used to be Humbrol 114 which is no longer available. I still prefer Humbrol, so my questions are......

1.) what is a good replacement in the humbrol line?

2.) What are your favorit paints and colors for Russian Green?

I'm not sure which Russian Green youre looking for, but I recall doing some figures and using Model Master Forest Green, Medium Green, and Medium FOrest Green on them for helmets, gear, etc. I actually was able to visit a museum in Moscow near the Kremlin about 3 years ago, and took lots of pictures of the WW2 gear on display there (Warning if you go, your not allowed to take pictures, but I was sneaky about it. I know, I am a bad American LOL). Those colors were the best match I could find to the colors on the actual helmets and such. As far as armor goes, I cant help you there. Model Master has some interesting new paints. Go to www.testors.com and check out their line of paints. using the color chart, I am sure you will find what your looking for.

For more matches you can also have a look here.
It's in Italian but input 114 or the name of the colour you're looking for in the empty field and press the Cerca (Search) button on its right.
Hope this can help...

There is more about Red Army paint HERE

Alternatively, if you don't want to mix, 117 is equivalent to FS 34102 (one of the 4BO matches) or try 116 if you prefer dark green.

Which of these three is the predominate color you use for the Armor?

Good question! LOL God, I cant remember as I seldom build Russian Armor. I did remember the figures, but thats about it. I have a bunch of WW2 Russian pictures at home I usually refer to when I am trying to match a color. More often then not, I find myself mixing my own paint to make the correct color as I generally dont find the paint in the bottle 100% correct most of the time.

Another non Humbrol paint is Tamiya XF-67 "NATO Green" which works fine for me.Just put my second coat on my 1/16th T34/76 1943 by Trumpeter and it looks like Russki green to me.

I use Vallejo Russian Green 017.
It's acrylic and you use it straight out of the bottle. No smell and looks great. Leave it for a day or two and it looks even better,

As David M. recommended, Hu116 or Hu117 or a mix of both works well for Russian green.
I tend to spray acrylics more and more these days, and use Vallejo Russian green now. Nice base colour.
IMO, no green on its own looks perfect. A little weathering really makes a big difference when painting Russian armor. A little fading inbigger panels looks great.

i made my russian green by mixing tamiya dark green with tamiya olive drab (3:2 mix if i remember correctly). i'm not sure if it comes close to russian green though. heres a pic of my js-3 :

i have a nagging feeling russian green should be darker.

Try using Floquil Pullman Green. It makes a good base coat for Soviet AFV,s. In fact I use railroad colors on all of my Soviet (WW2) AFV,s.

Ola Guys

Well I used tamiya NATO green mixed with a couple of drops of Buff for both my KVI and my T70's basecoats and it looked very russian to me... added a bit more buff for the T70's highlight color. In the mix I also added a few drops of Clear to make the acrylic paint less fragile and for the ease of filtering and washing

With friendly greetz
