Was wondering if anyone could give me an idea on what color to use for the walls and streets in this dio.

What color of brick would be used under the masonary work.

I think light gray road with white walls would look sharp after weathering.

Is that a figure set or did you scratch that out of different kits?

Thanks Alan, I thought that would be okay just wanted a few opions. As for the figures I have searched for the name of the kit and the manufacture but have had no luck. I bought a big lot of figures off ebay and they were in it. But Im pretty sure there out of production.

I'd have to agree with a base coat of light gray and an overcoat of pastels that is a yellowy (ochra) gray.

White would be okay but maybe a pale yellow or pink (with a gray colored brick) would be nice too. Btw great vignette!

Well I hate to be that lone voice crying out there in the
wilderness, . . . again. But I have a different opinion
about the colors of the ground tiles/street and the
wall colors. I feel that white and gray would work. But
I generally like to pick colors that go together in a more
harmonious color scheme. With the figs you have an
OD type of green and the sun tanned brownish kind of
flesh tones. To me a street/tiles color that would be
more in harmony with the green and tanned skin would
be a lighter tan with darker washes in the "cracks" of
the tiles. And I would make the walls more of a lighter
tan with some yellow and a touch of pink in the mix.

To me this would be more interesting and not so
stark as you will have with the white wall. Of course,
you realize we're just taking about personal taste in
how to use colors here. What the others suggested
would be OK.

Concerning colors for your Hue City street fight : There are numerous book and magazine references to that particular battle. Check in your local library. As I remember the photo references that I have seen, brick /tile red in various shades would be appropriate for the streets/sidewalks and any brick that you may choose to expose on the wall. The stucco covering applied to the walls were mostly grey, but could be most any color from white to whatever, mostly in light shades/tones. You might also consider lightening up the green on the utilities worn by your Marines. The cotton sateen field uniform of that time period faded quickly, and considerably, when subjected to the sunlight and abuse of continual field use. I think that your composition is really good and I look forward to seeing your progress on this dio. As the MiamiJHawk will afirm, I am interested in anything that has a Marine Corps theme. white with a touch of black to make it a very light grey for walls, darker grey for the street will work fine after weathering.

That figure set was made by Kirin, and is out of production. It was released in the late 90's. I've still got two sets. Hope to use them in a dio someday.

Keenan, whatever the colours you use, make sure to blend them together with lots of dust and earth tones. I've lived in south Asia all my life, and believe me, no surface retains its original colour very long. Something cheerful like toned down pinks and yellows would be cool, I think, to depict an Asian city with a French heritage, and would give a good counterpoint to the combat scene. Good luck, looks good so far.

If you have photo shop or some thing like that, try putting different colours up that way you can see what looks best before you paint, it looks great what ever colour you chose!

Hello Keenen,
Some good reference pts are some pics.
I started with off- white for the walls and then did a considerable amount of weathering . During the battle for Hue it rained considerably. When it comes to duplicating/scaling down walls/streets one thing to consider is looking at actual walls/streets when they are wet , you can can see how water stains/penetrates material and stains it. At pts were water accumalutes over time-grime,dust, mud and debree will also accumalute. Same for streets. From what I can see the brick sidewalk is a redish/brn hue. The street may be a combination of asphault and concrete, with layers of mud. Is your dio 1/35 scale? How large are you going to make it, any buildings, trees ect? As for the figures(1/35), Dragon 3305 US Marines, Tet Offensive 1968 and 3307 US Marines, Khe Sanh 1968(if you are planning for a large scene). Hope I was of some help.
Keep us posted.
Ray
