Do any of you have information about what life was like (photos too) of what life was like behind the front lines? I am thinking about making a dio with a field kitchen (or something similar to behind front lines). Any suggestions or research links/info? Thanks.

First of all, welcome to the site!
It might help to expand your question a bit: What war? What army? At what point and where in the war? Things vary a lot depending on who, when and where.

Yes, I suppose that those would be considerable points to consider. I was thinking WWII and either most likely German. As to when and where? I'm not sure I had anything in mind. I suppose any would do as I am not worrying about 100% accuracy for now. That will come later after I've had some experience with dioramas.

Well, the least expensive way (other than an online search) is to visit your local library and have a look at books on WW2. There are plenty of pix in those. If you can get hold of history programmes on DVD (again, the library) you are bound to find stuff.
Maybe someone can point you to some useful websites too.

Have to agree the library is a great source - Time Life put out a series of books and they have a ton of photos.
I've got some links to sites - but they are on my PC at work. I'll try to post them Monday.

From all the pictures shot in a war... the majority shows life behind the lines. Most of the war journalists and propaganda makers do both frontline and behind the line photography but those people are only responsible for a fraction of all the pictures made. If you look at personal albums you will discover the subject is merely about life behind the lines simply because you donīt have time to make pictures when you are fighting.
A good example is this feature that was posted here a few weeks ago and it shows 45 picture from a German soldier that served on the eastern front in a Panzerjager company. But the pics mostly show life behind the lines
"Photographic Memories of the Eastern Front"
Try to find period pictures online there is a wealth of information that can be found there. Links like these
"The russian front 1941-1945 As seen through the lens of German Soldiers"
The next album has some Images that might not be for people with a weak stomache as it shows the true horrors of the war as well
The Russian Campaign a Photo diary by Otto Wilnaur
Luftwaffe AA crew War Album of Karl Knoll
These are just a few of the brilliant sites around and if you look around a bit on the internet you might be amazed how much you can find.
