Mine was sitting at around 1500 at last count. However, I have been thinning the herd pretty regularly and have whittled it down to about 700-800. Armor, aircraft, sci-fi, cars, figures etc....All types, all eras, all scales. When I sold them here recently, I did it at our club kit auction and it was fun to see the looks on folks faces when the acquired the kits for next to nothing. Some of the kits were some 1/32 Hasegawa a/c kits with full resin and PE detail sets for $12. It was a good night. I have finally been able to get all of them out on my shelves where I can see them. I had to build a room with two 4 foot closets to hide all the kits from the wife.

Thanks and yes, it is nice to be able to look into a box immediately when questions pops up...but on the other hand, there is a lot of pressure to build faster before I can "...buy one more model to put on the pile." And to be honest, it can be hard to justify buying a 1/350 Nimitz, or a 1/72 Tu-160 when I know it will just be in storage.

I am getting the 1/35 MAZ transport whenever it comes out though. :-)

But one word of advice...be prepared for a LOT of work if you get a collection like this and have to move. It takes a LOT of empty boxes to put a collection like mine, and you need to have a professional hauler move this much stuff.

I can vouce for Matts description of this. Thanks to him my stash grew quite a bit. It was hard to pass up some of the deals he offered. One I didn't grab was a Tamiay Sherman Early Production, with a full resin engine upgrade for $5. Anothe guy got two of the other Tamiya Shermans, plus resin and PE kits, plus other goodies, for about $20. One guy was buying up so much you'd thought he was starting his own store.

I can vouch for the difficulty of moving large collections of "stuff". We moved into our current house about five years ago, and both my wife and I are pack rats. Boxes and boxes of books, die cast cars, militaria...it was nuts.

I've got this thread bookmarked as a defensive means for future purchases. My "stash" if you can even call it that in comparison to the others here stands at a mere 70 unbuilt kits.

Scott:

Only one way to fix the problem. Remove all limits. Let the stash take on its own identity and let her grow, flourish and multiply. :-) :-) :-)

I figure I only have about 25-30, which is a lot for me. I never used to have more than 2-3 kits laying around. But then two things happened, I got a part time job at a Hobby shop which presented waaaay too many deals that I couldn't pass on. Then, just over a year ago, I had-well actually my wife-had a baby. My model time has almost come to a complete stop. What use to take a month or so, now takes at least six months!! Oh well, she's worth it.

I have got 610 in the attic in cartons and another 193 (with some of my aftermarket pieces) in my modelling room partly begun on my list. These are roughly enough to build 33,5 years if i build two a month.

If we are talking "unbuilt" then I have around 100... if we are talking about completed models - then the answer is over 400.... including 90 dioramas!

What is considered one model? If individual figure packs count as one, or if one counts each figure in a multi-figure pack...

For simplicity I consider a model whatever is in the box. In which case I have probably several dozen aircraft, tanks, figures and ships. Add in AM or model railroad and my brain really starts to hurt...

Last year I think I built 5 start to finish, completed a like number of in-progress kits, and started about the same that are awaiting completion.

Many are old kits I kept from long ago--judged too good, too expensive to replace, or too nostalgic to get rid of when I moved. Most are in need of repair and/or refurbishing.
