Ok here's the Azimut schnellboot in 1/35th scale that will be part of a dio I'm building that will also include the A.A. quayside, VIIC - U boat, a sunken freighter at berth and another unlading.
The dio is to be called " One That Got Through " [ in reference to the small freighter unloading stuff ].
The location is somewhere in North Africa, location undisclosed, loose lips sink ships [ also cause unnecessary historical arguments ].
Speaking of which, I hope this particular s - boat was in the Med at that era 1941 -43.
Oh come on I'm entitled to a little poetic license, ok I'll just use it on the actual location.
Now , anyone know about the S- boat, .... there or not ?
This kit is expensive and stinks, way too much sanding, cutting, blasting, etc.
The hull is fiberglass and is about 3/4 of an inch too short for the resin [ warped ] deck pieces
Alot of the deck details [ cast on ] are broken off or scratched up.
One might blame it on shipping ..... but then one also would expect the broken bits to be in the packaging or box ..... not so ...... so this would lead me to believe it was packaged already fd - up.
Wow imagine that.
Never buy from them again.
Anyway here's the first installment on a long project.

Hi Cheyene,

Another happy Azimut customer I see . They make conversions/models of interesting oddballs, pity that their quality is so.. what shall I say.. peculiar. I bought their Panzer IV Smallturm last year, much the same story, the casting of the turret left much to be desired, I was considering removing the cuppola and replacing it with a plastic one as most of the periscope holes didn't line up with the covers.. But apart from that, the barrel was missing from the box. Many unanswered emails later I have given up, and like you won't bother with them again. Most of their kits display badly fitting and/or warped parts.

Anyway, interesting new project. Will you be scratch building as much as with your other waterside diorama? looking forward to see this one grow. Don't spare us the gore.. :-)

Cheers
Henk

You are movin' quick on this one.

Don't know a thing about S boats - I'd recommend trying over on the Shipwrights side if you don't get what you need here.

Alright, I dont know the difference between E-boats, S-boats, and plain old torpedo boats, but maybe this may be of help?

12 June 1942 - "The light cruiser Hermione is torpedoed and sunk on the 16th by the German submarine U-205, the destroyer Hasty is sunk on the 15th by the German torpedo-boat S-55."

That is from [url=http://www.regiamarina.net/timeline/1942/1942_us.htm[/url]

I think everyone should buy one ADV-Azimut kit. Not that they are particularly good, but you will sure tax your modeling skills, patience, and even create a few new adjectives along the way.
And you will never buy another one..... no matter how unique or desirable the subject mater is.

I sincerely wish you luck on this project, and hope you keep us posted.

Hmmm,
I bought the Panzerwerfer off Jeff (AngryEnsign) A year and a half ago... Warped upperhull, which didn't fit correctlyon the lower hull . Lots of patience and sanding and filling was required..
Still, after all the sweat the end result was worth it ( I think so anyway :-) )

Had I learned my lesson? No sir, I went and found a good looking 250/9 via ebay..... again with plenty of PE etc, only to find out that the running gear was not included... . Test fitting has revealed that it meay be a good idea to buy shares in Milliput, as filler will be needed... the gap between the engine deck and cab is spectecular..I actualy had to check if there was something going inbetween there.. ...

So I've learned my lesson then? No sir again..
Last year at Telford I bought the Pzr IV at their stall. I mean they would not sell a dud kit to you in person would they? Would they? They WOULD..

So I've learned my lesson now? I hope so, I won't put any more money to Azimut, but who knows, what might show up on ebay in the future (panzerfahre..please.. )

Cheers
Henk

Is that like the daytime (back to back) tv adverts aimed at people up to their neck in debt, to take out another loan to pay of their amassed debts? And dubble their debt in the process? :-)

Sorry Cheyenne, done it again.. ( he that rhymes.. :-) )

Sounds a lot like AEF!
Their old ads in Fine Scale were not large or in color, but they sure made the parts in the box look a WHOLE lot better than I ever managed to do!
It was not for a long while that I figured out that the ad featured the master that was scratchbuilt for the photo. What arrived in the box (when it arrived) looked nothing like it.

L.O.L. ...... Didn't mean to start an anti Azimut thread ..... but if the shoe fits ..... pass the beer nuts.
Henk no problem about the off topic type thing but you're right.
My first Azimut piece of dog stool was the 6 wheeled g - 6 I believe, wanted that since seeing it in Tony Greenlands book many yrs. ago.
Now there's a magician. I opened mine and started on it right away so sad it was crap, I don't mind a little extra effort type work on a kit but some badly cast sh#t just can't be repaired.
So Henk, I'm a two - fer on the Azimut shame on me boat also.

Henk, as a matter of fact, thanks for going off topic, it made me look for this oldie and after thinking about it and looking at it [ my first resin ] this one's not that bad.
Dear Azimut, this one's not that bad, sorry for the slam, but only on this one, the others I've not been very happy with.
Only problem is I have to go rooting around for the rest of the parts !!!!
The rest of you guys, thanks alot for the input.

Cheyenne,
It looks like you are about to embark on a new and exciting adventure. It looks very promising, and I for one, can't wait to see it finished. However, WHEN THE HECK ARE YOU GOING TO FINISH THE OTHER WATER FRONT DIO??!! I have been wainting to see it finished for over a year now. It's just not fair to string us along on an other teaser!! I know from experience that when working on a large dio, sometimes the old mind gets bored, or you hit a wall, so you work on something else for a while. But the something else should be something small that you can knock out quickly. I'm just busting your chops Cheyenne, keep up the good work, and keep us posted, maybe someday you will finish one of these! But I think you should make a promise to all of the members here not to start an other project till one of these are finished. Whatcha say?

Brian, I love ya man, you got me figured out. l.o.l.

Hey, think of it this way, I'm building all of this stuff and nothings happening to it [ it's safe, it's not going anywhere, all of my ideas are still there ]. One of these days everything will come together, it's just that I'm getting ready to retire and I'm happy just building things. To be honest with you, if it never gets tied together, it's my hobby and my relaxation down-time. But, I do promise to finish the " Prelude to Autumn Mist " dio and I will finish my present undertaking.
Come on man if I finish it I won't have anything to do !

Brian, I've only been building things for a little over 1 year. In retrospect, I think I've put out a lot of stuff.

You are right, though, I should finish what I start, but it's there and it will get finished.

Actually, you can blame it on me quitting smoking because I haven't been right since. l.o.l., thank God I didn't quit drinking.

Thanks for the compliments. If I have it my way and everything turns out the way I see it in my head, this future unfinished dio will be better than the first. l.o.l.
Ok I promise [ ha, ha, ha, yeah right, the check is in the mail ] I will finish both the current North Africa thingie and the B.OB. thingie before starting on something else. " Forgive me lord and I'll go live with the pigmyes [ sp ? ] in New Guinea " Larry the CABLE GUY !!!!

Hey Cheyenne, Could you please contact me at [email protected] as I would like to talk to you some more about the Azimut Schnellboot.
I have one of the Tian Jie 1/36 Schnellboot kits which I am getting ready to start and would like to do a comparison between the two and just generally talk some S-Boot stuff with you.
Thanks,
Mike P
