Back in the early days we used to have fund raisers and other drives to get areas of the site going. Remember the T-Shirt drive one year?
My idea is to take the photos of the various models of the month or models on display, add a quick one or two sentence caption about the model. We could do an Armor only one and another with all other types of models or just one with various types of kits.
For example,
"John Smith built the AFV Club Tiger I using the Eduard photo etch set, Fruil tracks and finished it with Tamiya paints. It placed first in the Timbuktu regional show in July 2005 and was Armorama's model of the month in January 2006."
We could charge $5 for a calendar to an A-Guard member, $7 to a non-A-Guard member (just tossing out ideas/numbers here). Perhaps we could also get a model manufacturer or retailer to sponsor the calendar. Maybe even include a coupon on a page somewhere.
A quick google search of calendar making companies turned up: http://www.4promoproducts.com/custom_calendar.html

Rob - if I remember right there was a discussion about a calendar about two years ago. There was quite a bit of interest then. I can only imagine that there would be more now.
Count me in on a purchase if it flies.
LOVE the sponsor idea.

I'd love to be able to offer some kind of Armorama calendar. The issue I ran into was getting high-enough resolution images (1MB-5MB) for doinng a "printed" piece.
CafePress does custom calendars like you mention. I think the pricing would have to be more in the $20 area though to make it worthwhile.

Hi,
My Camera (Fuji S5000) can shoot in 1MP, 2 MP, 3MP or 6 MP interpolated. I can get file sizes between 400 KB to ohh.. 50 MB if I shoot in RAW mode. If you are seriously considering this, I would be willing to travel in the southern Britain area to photograph models (plastic one, in case SWMBO is reading.. ) from U.K. members.
Cheers
Henk

Hi there
It sounds a grea idea - count me in to buy one if you get it off the ground!
I think many members can supply higher definition pictures than the Gallery allows us to upload - so if they send them via e-mail, we should be able to gather a group of sufficiently high quality images for the calendar.
All the best

This is actually an excellent idea, with digital cameras nowadays running multipixels on average it shouldn't be an issue getting high quality images. As long as we stick to models and not pictures of Grumpy in a man thong or something like that we should be ok. lol Just kiddin' Grumpy!

When I shoot a model for the site, it usually weighs in at at least 1MB (and then I resize), and I can get higher res than that.
Might be better to get retailers to sponsor since I doubt Tamiya will sponsor a celendar showing off a Dragon kit (and vice versa). Alternately you could get different sponsors for each page.

Now Henk, I would be prepared to travel with my Fuji S20 pro to photograph the models that Henk is not allowed to.

If there was interest in the items I have posted I have the original unedited images which would be the high res. The camera I use is 6Mega pixel. WE print our photos at home and they are very clear and crisp.

Well, tyre companies have different 'strenght' calenders (one for the office, and one for the workshop.. ) so you might be on to something John.. :-) :-)
