We all got pretty excited in this thread!! I realize you were proposing an idea Branden, and I didn't make my response as an attack on you, just as a reply to your query. The idea of promoting donations was great, but then we have the problems it could create. I'm sure the vast majority of posters here could afford to donate some cash (having a computer, IP, models etc indicates some level of financial cushion). Some may choose not to donate for whatever reason, and any ribbons could just be a problem. And yes, if I ever get a ribbon I want to earn it, not buy it.
Now how much do we have to donate to take care of the bandwidth used for this discussion??!
Cheers
Andy

Nobody likes to be in a position to get donations, and I'm sure you'd prefer this site to be so lucrative with advertising that it wouldn't cost you a penny.
Life is not like that. From my job I know the cost of running a solid website.
There's no reason you and your family should carry the burden of making Armorama all on your own. Thanks for doing this, Jim.
Poor Branden, I'm sure you mean well.
If you think spending something to the benefit of this site is the thing to do, please do so. If you don't, you're just as welcome on Armorama. There's no need for ribbons, medals and monuments. Enjoy the pleasure of knowing you did something to help. Feels good.
Branden's idea of putting a link to paypal is a good one. It's there already, I noticed.

Hey I was giving a sugestion to help out the sights contributions My god I thought there were suposed to be nice people on this sigth
Makes me think before I Will give anymore sugestions Besides to me donation would be going above and beyond the call of duty cause this is not a pay sigth.
I dont give a poo-poo about having a medal personally but i thought it would help jim
I am going to donate because this is a great sigth not for a medal
I had just seen othersigths do it.
They had a contributors insignia and it worked well for them
Thanks Guys for doing this to me when i was trying to help
Sincerely Branden
Branden
There are nice people on this site, this site, as you know is the friendliest site on the web. There was nothing wrong with your suggestion, it's just that most don't agree with the idea. I actually refused to except my LS&GC medal while I was serving in the british Army, so I'm not going to want a medal for donating to a wonderful site like this. The amout that I will donate will be limited, because I'm out of work, but thats not the point. I'm doing it simply to show support to Jim, because of this site.
Don't let this put you off.

Branden,
And appreciate your donation I do. Hmm...I sound like Yodaman. Speaking of Yodaman where is he when I need him to inject a little humor?
Seriously though... Don't get so upset about this. A few users over-reacted to your suggestion and made some assumptions about your motives that they should not have. It's all water under the bridge now. As I told you in the PM I sent earlier I had the same idea you brought up before I read this thread, and after reading some of the other remarks changed my mind about the appropriateness of a medal for donations. Your idea was just that, an idea. No one should have been getting insulted that you made it.
Cheers,
Jim
PS: And watch the language!

"So what is the deal with girls these days? Every time I try to talk to one they either stare at me or run away screaming. The screaming part isn't bad, it's getting them to run toward me that's the hard part!"
*waits for laughter*
"Ahh, I still remember being a Freshman. They were best three years of my life."
*pauses*
"...of my life."
*a cricket chirps*
"So anyway, I was waiting in line to checkout at the grocery store. This lady in front of me had a whole cartfull of stuff compared to my one bottle of soda. When she saw my my soda she asked me if I wanted to take her place. I politely declined... I mean, why would I want to pay for all her stuff?"
*pauses again*
"Is everybody comfortable in here? I mean, I want you to be relaxed but not nessicarily lethargic. A little reaction would be nice."
*sighs*
I think that's enough bad jokes for now... #:-)

Man, I love forums, they get everyone goin', ain't life grand. So has the dust settled? This is truly a great place to see way cool stuff and to interrelate with lots of folks from all over the world. But we must remember, not everyone has been in the military, not everyone has the same life experience, and not everyone is a salty old vet. I haven't seen any vital parts missing from anyone so I guess we can go on from here and make this bigger, I don't see how it could get much better, and get everyone involved and communicating. I've learned more in this little bit of cyberspace than I have on a whole lot of other places in real life. And what is this Der Sonntag Bund? I gotta get by there one of these times. Well My soapbox is beginnig to get shaky so I'm gonna go back in the dark here and contemplate some more, look at some more amazing plastic and mixed media until I find something that is equally passionate, dramatic, riveting, entertaining, and thanks to YODAMAN, humorous for me to comment or add my one and one quarter cents in, it used to be two cents but due to inflation.............
