I don't know if this would be a good idea, Branden. I think that would apply to much pressure to thos who don't have the money, and might lead to difficulties. This is not a pay site, this is just some friends helping out when help is needed, and I think it should stay that way.

I also don't think that it would be a good idea. I'm sure that those that donate will be happy with the fact that they are helping this great site.

I truly don't mind Donating To the cause of this Site. It's one of the Best on the web. I
HATE Paysites. The occasional or Single time donation is cool with me. It's not really appropriate to have a metal or ribbon in my eyes.

Hey, I made a joke about this in the other (main?) donation thread.
I think Rank, medals etc should NOT be related to payment.
It's supposed to be voluntary!!

lifestyle - don't hesitate to ask - you know the saying - the only bad question is the one you don't ask. Unfortunatly I think I agree with everyone that the rank ribbon shouldbe based on the modeling/posting you do and not the money you put out. The $ is something You know you did and you know Jim will use it wisely (party at Jims house ).

You have good intentions Brandon but I agree with everyone else on this issue.
Medals (in the military anyway) should be earned. "Giving" or "Selling" them takes away from the meaning and detracts from the sacrifice that others have made to "earn" theirs. Typically, medals should be awarded for going above and beyond the call of duty or significantly exceeding a set standard.
When a medal is "earned", everyone has an even chance of getting the medal. If you "sell" a medal, it may not be attainable by all because some people have not had as good of fortune as others and their financial assets may be tied up for necessary things. Campaign medals are "given" to those people who had taken part in a specific action. Again, all those involved qualify on an equal basis. Finances do not influence who gets one.
So, I'll get off of my soapbox now. After 15 years in the Army(and still going) I am probably too sensitive to "give me" or "sell me" medals. I hope Jim keeps his standards as high as they currently are.
I will gladly donate. Why? Because, I can afford it and feel a donation to improve this site is the least that I can do to compensate Jim for this fantastic home that he has created for us.
In the end, even those who cannot offer financial aid make their donation in constructive comments and their presence on this site. For this to be a true community, we need all the members we can get regardless of their demographics. I will consider anyone on this site a part of the same Armorama family if they have a penny in their wallet or $100.00.
Sharp Salute Jim!!

I cannot say any better than this about the thank you Jim part, I urge all pigs to read my thread in the DSB "It's time we show our support" which I had posted yesterday. Thanks Stug, and THANK YOU JIM!

Errr.......Guys cut Brandan some slack..;It was only a suggestion. I think he had the right intentions to heart and that's what really counts....You can't know if an idea shall float or not unless you have the courage to throw it out on the surface. I think he was just trying to positively stimulate the contribution thing ..;No biggie.

Branden,
Don't take any offense by the response to your suggestion. I actually was thinking about that option shortly before reading your post. Of course after reading the guys words of wisdom above I would have to agree that it might be unproductive to associate the ribbons and awards to simply donating money to the site. Don't get me wrong, I value my $5 or $10 bucks as much as the next guy. But in the day where that doesn't even buy a family of three a meal at McDonalds....well, let's just say I would much rather give out the medals for the UOM and the various group builds.
Now if someone where to donate a thousand dollars...hmmm... hehe (just kidding).
Cheers,
Jim

Perhaps you could let us know in a few days how much you raised compared to the costs of the server, that would be reward enough, Jim.

Hey I was giving a sugestion to help out the sights contributions My god I thought there were suposed to be nice people on this sigth
Makes me think before I Will give anymore sugestions Besides to me donation would be going above and beyond the call of duty cause this is not a pay sigth.
I dont give a poo-poo about having a medal personally but i thought it would help jim
I am going to donate because this is a great sigth not for a medal
I had just seen othersigths do it.
They had a contributors insignia and it worked well for them
Thanks Guys for doing this to me when i was trying to help
Sincerely Branden

Brandon with the things that were for us by Jim, even suggesting such a thing is hurtful to what or club stands for. I feel that the act alone has already been repayed by Jims recognition of our club as a legitimate group of modelers. sorry to be harsh, but i feel a ribbon or medal is too much since we have gotten so much from jim and his "staff". Jim if thee is anything else the DSB club could do for the all yoou have to do is ask, we owe much more than $5 or $10 for all the things you put up with from us pigs.... thanks for your hard work jim, sorry brandon...stug

Stugiiif,
Cool down,
You are making to much of this, Branden only made a suggestion, one even Jim was considering, so give the man some slack.
I am sure that he only wanted to throw something in the ring so we (and Jim) could think about his idea, I thought this is the purpose of this forum??
He did not deserve to be attacked like this, mind you, I am also not in favor for giving out medals/ribbons for donations, but it was a genuine idea.
Brandon, don’t get upset about this, your intentions where good and getting your idea online dos not hurt Jim or this site, but attacks against the person who dares to say his mind can!

When I read the post I thought it sounded like a good idea....then I read the replies and could see why not to give a medal for a donation....it's true I would like to donate but can't spare anything at this time as a single parent who's looking for work right now.......and yes....I think I would feel left out in the cold if I didn't have a medal when all my fellow modellers did.....but I still think it was a good idea to throw out there and see who saluted it....it didn't deserve to be attacked in any way shape or form....as kids if we were yelled at or laughed at for every suggestion we made we would just stop making them....that's NO way to keep a thriving and healthy modelling community such as this going strong.
Jim...I wish I could help...I love this site and would hate to see it go down because of financial hardships...please accept my best wishes and luck in getting what you need to keep such a great site going.

Here is my point of veiw guys. it's obivious some of you didn't read my apology cause it's still getting responses. But hey, there have been a lot of things done for the clubs here, and there are those who cannot donate a thing!!!!! Now why would we want diffrentiate between those who gave and didn't? Next question, why would a club which has been givin' so much by this site ask for something in return? Its like me; being a service member, asking the American people for a $1,000,000 dollars for defending the values we stand for in this country. I volunteered for service just as I did to donate to the site. which means to me and the most of us a smile and thank you is enough. I just think it was a wrong thing ask, and Jim felt we deserve a medal or ribbon for it then, oh well, his way saying thank you. That all I have to say. stug

Ok
Everybody made clear that they will donate, medal/ribbon or not (mostly not)
But maybe we could choose something in between, let`s say a "monument" for us all on the site. This only will be a picture without names of people who donated. Next to my donation I will also offer to design it. Not a single problem.
So what do you think.

Ok no fight!
Brandenus, I am sorry if any of my reply had been insensitive in any way, for which I am very sorry, if anything you wish me to edit, I will. I recon this is an honest question, and is for the good of the site, and in some cases this medal thing does prompt donations. I have a plague that I display with pride for my donation and participation in the Rotary Club in the office.
Stug, I also totally understand your sentiments. I too share your feeling in regarding this site and Jim. I feel that out of kindness and hard work, Jim had created something so wonderful for us, and on top of this, he also grant us a place for maddness. I said that 1,000 times and I will say it again, I am eternally in Jim's debt.
So I wish we can go back to what really matters, the donation to the site. and I once again urge all the pig members if you are financially okay, please do make the donation. doesn't matter how much you donates.
And Jim, I will also like to make a proposation, once you tallied the total donation, if you are short of any amount, I will be happy to pay for the shorted amount on behalf of all the pigs.
My 2 HK cents. and have fun. Oink Freak'n Oink!
