Are there any kits made of Shermans M48s or any armor used by the US in WWII in 1/25th scale? Its an odd scale and doesnt seem to be much out there and I cant find anything Allied. anyone know? Thanks, Tim

Other than the Italeri and Hasegawa Jeeps, I'm not sure of any Allied WW2 kits. I know Tamiya did a few, but the Centurion was the earliest Allied kit.

Bandai did the M60A1 in 1/25th or 1/24th ... goes for big bucks on ebay. Then there's the Chieftain by Tamiya and I even believe they did a Big Shot (M40) and a M4 Sherman too, but that was way back in the 70's.

At least that's what an old Tamiya instruction sheet I have states. Supposedly they did 1/21 scale tanks too but I never did see them!

Tamiya also did a T34/85 and an SU100 I could swear someone else re-released those two sometime ago

The SU-100 and T-34-85 were copied by Toystar or a similar Chinese company, and can still be seen in some shops, I think they also knocked off the Chieftain prototype Tamiya did. IIRC most of the Tamiya Shermans and the like were 1/21 or 1/24 and dated to the earlier 70s, they were certainly in the first Tamiya catalogue I bought back in 1973.

BTW both the SU-100 and T-34-85 are post-war Czech-built versions and are based on Egyptian examples captured during Suez and displayed at Bovington.

One other possibility - Franklin Mint did an M4A3E8 in 1/25th in diecast. Looks pretty nice, but they did put a split-cover gun-ring hatch over the commander's station instead of a cupola. Tank has interior detail. Some fine details, correct the cupola, add stowage and figures and it would be a very nice model. Biggest drawback - the price. Retail was originally almost $200 USD, but i've seen them go for much less.

They also did an M1 Abrams, but I haven't seen one in person yet.
