Hi Guys. How has everybody been. I just started back on to some projects that i hadn't had time to do lately. Here's some pics of my M3 for my Sahara dio Im working on. For some reason in these pics the rust is more prominant than if you saw it in person. Anyway I have a little bit left to go but I think it's shaping up alright. Whatta ya think?

Brian, looks good,
Now I'll have to bring my Sahara DVD to work, and watch it again for the 50th time..... :-)
How's the kit fit, etc?

Brian,
She sure looks sweet.
I like you're weathering.
Only pick would be the LULUBELLE lettering is too large an missplaced if you're trying to duplicate LULUBELLE in the movie SAHARA.
It is only as long as the space between where the upper hull stops and the storage box begins and follows the angle of the hull. If you have a copy of the movie there are good views of it during the opening minutes.
One of the Greatest War Movies ever made. Only SWMBO's appeared in photos the guys shared. :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
What is your plan for the diorama?
Gary

I pose this more as a question for someone is more of an expert on US markings at this time. Wouldn't the stars and such be yellow for this time period? Just something to contemplate and I would look forward to the answer myself.

Real M3 mediums in North Africa had yellow stars, Lulubelle is strictly Hollywood

Great work Brian
Nice to see Lulubelle once again , I like the wear and tear on the upper surfaces where the crew would clambered about.
Im going to have to dig the movie out now and watch it again

Looking great Brian, very nice drybrush effect. Only one thing pops in my head about this....the rusting you did to the overall body. Someone correct me if i'm wrong please, but, does iron rust like this in the dry desert?
jst a question.
any in progress pics you could share on the build?

Very nice Lee, what are the plans for the Diorama, at the well or on the way. Is it rust or dirt?

Hi Guys,
I read (I think from Rommel's Army In Africa by Dal McGuirk) that near the coast that the exposed steel, over night, would develope a very fine powdery dark brown rust, which would wipe away.
That said, I suggest you tone down the scuffs. It seems that the only time armor plate is shiney like that is when it is polished, otherwise it retains a grayish metallic color. Pencil lead (graphite) works great, providing a shine but keeping the color dark. Here's a recent thread about AFV WXing: https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/77478#660628
Color WW@ Pix of Lees
That said, I think it is a good looking model!
Is this Academy's new M-3 or Tamiya's?

Brian,
You've picked one of my favorite War movies.
Can't wait to see what you're planning.
I've always liked the opening scene when all three of them are huddled at the rear of LULUBELLE repairing her in the midst of the artillery barage.
Cheers
Gary

Hi Brian,
I am eagerly awaiting your first pix of your diorama!
Tamiya? Do you have photo-etch on it? You have built a beauty out of the old kit

Hi Guys,
Looking at the URL I posted above, I notice the track on this Lee: http://danielcesar.fotopic.net/p22967499.html
Look at how taunt that track is! And is it me, or is this moving machine's front and rear bogies lifted up towards the sprocket and idler? Is this normal?

Fred, It's quite normal, look at the photo again, the terrain is "U" shaped, hence the lifting bogeys.
Cheers

Yea it has a PE grill and light protectors and latches here and there but they were from a Grant PE set so I could only use whats typical for both.

I noticed that too. Check out how the track sucked up under the sproket in this pic:

Just my own observation about the tracks in all the pics in that gallery....all images have the Lee moving...i didn't notice any of it standing still. So i would guess that the tension is "on" and the slack is taken up.
and another thing...do i detect some slight silvering of the decals on the image posted above?
