I just noticed the Bren with 50 rd Drum Mag on the turret top in the photo, pretty common in CHurchill photos. The brens were issued as the vehicle AA weapon.

Thank you Ian and Alan for the information/photograph of 'Briton', it is appreciated.

While it was intended that the Bren was for anti-aircraft purposes, the idea was dropped following firing exercises during 1942. Consequently, the drum magazines were no longer part of our (North Irish Horse) Churchill's inventory.

Here's a photograph of 43rd RTR crews aboard the short lived Mark IIs;


Incidentally, one of our tanks shot down a Messerschmitt in Tunisia with a BESA.
