This is Tristar's 38(t) pretty much OOTB. Just a couple of things added like the DML tow cable and ends and Model Point barrels. I am ready to paint so If you see anything I missed please pipe in!

It looks like it builds well OOTB. The Model Point barrels look sweet!
I say paint away
What did you use on the muffler for the texture?

Cheers Lads!

David, the texture is Mr Surfacer 500.

MEBM, the kit is plastic! I have seen them for sale online at RZM imports. Mission Models and GM.

Ah, thank you! Is it better than the Italeri and Maquette kits? I understand that Dragon is supposed to be coming out with an Ausf. G "soon". Thanks for your time.

Lets just say the Tristar kit is Light years ahead of the Italeri and Maquette kits.

I too hear of the G from DML. Shame really the G is so similar to the E/F, what I would have liked to see is a A or B. Somthing to pose next to a Char B or in Poland.

Looks great so far, John !! I like that texture on the muffler. Hmm, I may have to get some of that Mr Surfacer stuff and keep it in stock !

Those Model Point barrels are sweet

Guess I need to get some aftermarket goodies in for this kit too

I have the Tristar Pz Kpfw 38t Ausf E/F kits here at my shop if anyone wants to order. Just let me know

Tristar also has a Pz Kpfw 38t Ausf G/Befehlspanzerwagen 38t Ausf G (command version) coming out soon as well.

I will agree with you John, this Tristar Pz Kpfw 38t kit smokes both the old Italeri and/or Maquette kits. Tristar's rules the house right now

Cheers !!

Great job on the build!
Tristar German Panzer Kpfw.38[t] Ausf.G / Panzerbefehlswagen Pz.BfWg 38[t] Ausf.G (Kit # TS 35022) has been released. I imagine examples have been dispatched to all the usual suspects for review.

I do not believe it has been more than two months since the Ausf. G was announced soon after the Ausf. E/F.

I wonder if they will follow with another 38(t) variant ? Earlier A-D versions would be nice but Tristar is in good position for a Marder III Ausf. H. The Tristar 38(t) will be a tough act for Dragon to follow.

Regards,
Tom

John...it looks really great.
Now I get to show my ignorance.... is the gray stuff around the commanders cupola and other areas Mr Surfacer too? and are you useing it in those areas as joint filler? or for some other purpose? For painting...are you going to remove the tracks from the wheels and the wheels from the body?
Cheers

Hi Guys!

Carl - No dio planned and no cow. There is some rudimentary interior, but I wasn't in the mood.

Gene yes the grey is Mr. Surfacer and Indeed I am using it to fill gaps. Here is a pic of the kit dissassembled for painting:

One with primer on:

and one just before dissasembly, I added MG sights and damage to the fenders and muffler

Looking good John. Makes me want to start on mine. Do you have a link for where you got the machine gun barrels? I found the main gun on Model Points site, but not the machine gun. Thanks.

Do you use the portable vise for painting, drying or both?

Nice work so far John with the panzer gray finish. Those MP barrels are very nice, especially painted up.

Gday John
This is a swisho rivetted little number!
In the second pic (and I'm sure it has been corrected during the painting stage...) the second from front roadwheel looks to have its rubber(?) tread hanging a bit skewiff... For this to happen I'd imagine they are separate parts?
The tone of the grey looks good to me too... Not sure how you are going to finish the muffler, but it seems everyone who builds German AFVs depicts them riddled with rust... Is this entirely accurate? (Due to the thin metal construction I guess...)
Cheers
Brad

Looking great John. Should be a dream to paint with all the rivet detail and contours. Those machine gun barrels look amazing when painted.
How is the model attached to the vise? Care to take a quick foto of this?? Cheers!

Thanks for the comments, here are some answers.

Redleg the kit was base coated in Tamiya German Grey, then post shaded with multiple layers of the Grey with more and more Buff added and the paint diluted more and more.

Brad the tires are indeed seperate items, but this time tristar left a little more play in the fit so they can be painted seperatly!

Frank, I simply glue a large diameter plastic tube to the underside of the hull.
