I have been saving changes, such as adding an email address and nothing is saving. Hmmmmm?

Ugg...sorry I should have been more clear in the original post. I have disabled HTML as an option for the sig text line. If you have HTML in your existing block you will need to remove it (more than likely) in order to create and save any new text. All linking and the like is done through the use of either your "Your Link" URL field or your Email field (email would be if they go through to your profile page).

Sorry for the confusion.

One other question: Do you have a size limit for graphic sigs? As in Kilobytes?
I've been trying to keep the ones I make at about 30 Kb or so... does it even matter?

OK it seems I have some troubles here...

Jim, URL of my album here on Armorama is too long to write in Your Link box.. Is that possible?

Could I use the image hosted on this site as a banner? The banner from my MSN gallery can not be displayed here somehow.. Am I totaly stupid or what???

I seem to have a problem with this new function. I had to erase my signature in order to insert and save URL to my image. Now that I've removed the image I am not able to get my signature to apper the way it did before. My sig now can only be one line (my name). I am not able to add anything else to it.

OK, I've noticed the boxes related to your signature that are in the "your profile" setup page.

Your link:
This is where you set what website you want to have a link to... In your signature there will be a line of text that says "Visit my seleted link"... For example, my selected link is StarWars.com

Your personal signature:
This is where you place quotes, phrases or other text. Before Jim added the new image feature, this was where you placed URLs for images. No longer can you put HTML code in this box.
My quote is "I apologise for any blatantly obvious spelling errors. "

Url for your signature image:
This is where you put the link for your sig image. For example, the text I put here for my sig image is: http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0RgCyBIsVFQi866t8l9gqG8evePEu6*EfbKJRi!XldLRuggc!23cXmG3zzgEPxCEIywo9tzNAHGzUxdueCPI6iUJINFt0NhPHmMjA2yVz*bw/YodaMansig.jpg?dc=4675406623951078428

Hope that clears things up a bit.

Joe,
Thanks for that mini-tutorial.

I am noting that the MSN hosted images are breaking intermittently. I have had some queries lately about whether or not MSN is working correctly as they were trying to add a new album and images but could not complete the whole process. My guess is that MSN Groups is once again back the point where their servers are overburdened and sporatically not returning info/images/etc. My my...we must be shutting down the net with all our usage!

Anyways I might reccomend for something like a sig image that you opt to use another hosting space. One that can be a tad more reliable (and the URL would be a lot shorter!).

Cheers,
Jim

Yep, I got that, but it seems that my Selected link (my figures folder here on Armorama) has more characters than I can add to the box..

I have noticed that many pics added here (mostly from MSN) don't show on my computer.. Am I the only one with this problem?

Mario,
Well don't beat yourself up too badly. I think that field is 255 characters so yes it's possible the URL might be too long. Although people are using the MSN url's without too much problem so I doubt that.

On using any images hosted here at https://armorama.kitmaker.net, don't. See rule #2 "use URL of image hosted off-site".

Jim

But there's 100 characters limit for the Selected Link box... I can't add the link to my folder here on Armorama..

Yeah. I got mine working. I think I'll spend more time changing banners than modelling now. Crap. I'll never get anything off the bench. All the banners look great. I'm still dinking around with the photo editing software so I thought I'd use the most famous photoshopped picture in history until I get somethin better done.

Great job guys...

Boy, you got that right!
I think Jim has some kind of hidden agenda, sort of a secret mission statement, whereby all our time that would normally be used for building plastic will be taken up by the cool things of this site. Since he has not the time to build, neither shall we.

It took a few tries, but even an old fart like me finally got it to work, Lol. Now, back to my modeling... By the way Ken, I love the banner. Way cool.

Okie dokie. I think it's a little better now. The new system supports low level HTML (bold, italic, links) but not IMG tags. Also what was screwing up the earlier attempts at saving was a comination of the 255 character limit (now 500) and the use of quotation marks. All should be fixed now.

It is, praised be our fearless leader...

BTW, nice sig line. Bladerunner is one of my favourite movies; loved the director's cut too, but I still don't know if Deckard was a replicant... :-)

I've had three little pics in the sig so far. Put one up just for Jim. Bladerunner is one of my favorites, too... I am going to get nothing off the bench.

Hey, I haven't see BladeRunner yet... don't spoil anything! :-) I do have the movie font though..

Once you start making signature images, you can't stop. You'll be looking for ways to make each image cooler than the last... #:-)

YM,
Whatcha waiting for?? Go out and rent it man! You've been depriving yourself for far too long. I'm not sure whether to recommend viewing the original or the the Directors Cut though. I am still fond of the original.

I made one (hopefully) final change to this setup. I am rather concerned about the number of users posting images that are REALLY big. Tall images add to the scroll of the forum pages and are one major concern for even offering this feature.

To combat this I set the HEIGHT on the sig_line image to 75 pixels. What this means is that images should really be formatted at 75 pixels in height to look correct. Smaller images will end up looking stretched and large images will just get shrunk down to 75 pixels so it's not really worth making them larger (plus they will appear a bit distorted).

If you have a small object that you want to use and don't want to enlarge it, simply put empty space around the image and that will fill up the 75 pixel requirement. The width doesn't matter. Just don't make them wider than 500 pixels!!

For those who really want their sig_line images to shine I would reccommed trying the transparent background feature available in applications like Photoshop on GIF images.

Cheers,
Jim

You should see it, but I also suggest getting the soundtrack.. If you like Vangelis music, this one will be always in your MusicBox..
