G'day guys
these fellas will be going into a diorama i'm working on, that will portray the The Battle of Buna, 18th December 1942.
It will consist of Japanese defensive lines (trenches, bunkers, pillboxes etc..) with the Australian 18th Bridage and an M3 Stuart of the 2/6th Armored Regiment assaulting the Japanese positions.
So far ive got these 7 finished, plus another 2 not photographed, and the last 2 Japanese currently in progress, i'll next start on the Australians.
Anyways here they are, they are Airfix Multpose (1/32 but in comparison to DML figures of 1/35th they actually seem to be more like 1/35th scale themselves) Skin is painted in Enamels and Oils, and uniforms and gear in Craft Acrylics.
The lighting is yet again slightly bright thanks to this great southern sunshine, but it has only really affected the faces making the tones and contrasts a bit suttle, but the Uniforms and such seem to have come out ok, however everything is a little bright.
But that aside, these Multipose figures are just amazing, the Dynamic poses you can achieve such as the soldiers being shot while charging, the KIA and such, these figures just leave everything open as long as you have an imagination and a bit of superglue for some flying gear!
Hope you all like them, comments are welcome.
Cheers
This soldier will be sprung out of a Spiderole, using his rifle+bayonet as a lance against a charging Australian Soldier.
This fella has fallen due to the two gunshot wounds to his thigh, his arms are raised in a defensive manner and his expression of fear will be result of an Australian soldier standing over him about to get him with his rifle bayonet, grim yes, but i'm not portraying a lovely peaceful day in New Guinea, this day was CQB at it's grizzliest.
Reaching for another magazine.
My favourite figure so far, good example of the dynamic poses you can achieve with these figures.

Hi again David,
Here's a link to an interesting company, Japanese Armour King, that has some additional Japanese figures and interesting artilleery, vehicles and tanks.

Outstanding work.
Just one little niggle, the guy changing mags, I'm not sure how easy it would be to hold a rifle that horizontal with one hand and still keep it in the shoulder.

David, they're looking good! I especially like the Jap that's being knocked back on being shot. Very nice animation! Nice to see a different subject. Which figures are you using for the Aussies? Airfix again? I've got a pile of Airfix multipose I've been debating what to do with. They really have stood the test of time as they're superb figures. Looking forward to seeing this one finished!

Shay-Thanks mate, and i'm glad ive finally convinced you! We'll have to discuss what battles you could do this week.
PaveHawk- Yeah mate he's my least favourite figure but he was thwe end of the line so i pretty much had to make him in that pose, but i figure i'll have his gun resting on a palm log or something, put him in a trench or bunker so he's a bit out of the way ya know.
Karl- Yep, Aussies will be airfix multipose again, British 8th Army and British in Europe, the beauty of it is the Aussies had both types of uniform in New Guinea, our webbing was the standard british/commonwealth, as were our packs, and most of the 18th were using the Helmets instead of our slouch hats during Buna, so they are perfect for use as Aussies.
Cheers guys

Hi David
Really nice animation and painting - one point, the Japanese used a system of cloth tapes tied in a very complicated series on knots (inspired by traditional Japanese armour IIRC) to secure their helmets, not the usual chin straps used by eveyone else.
All the best

David, they came out great! I look forward to seeing them with the Aussie figs. Do you have a specific scene planned for them? Cheers Kevin
