#:-) I know Tamiya suggests XF-61 (dark green) but it just doesn't seem to be the right shade. Can anyone tell me the correct color (or mixture of colors) for my Russian armor.
Thanks everyone. Jeff

If your doing modern Soviet armor I have used Forest Green by Testors with good result.
For WWII soviet armor I use Russian armor green and lighten or make it slightly darker depending on the "lenght of service" that I wish to represent.
It is just what I have used there may be many other opinions!

I don't think that there was one true shade for Russian tanks. Like American olive drab, there would have been many shades seen throughout the war, due to varying batches and subsequent fading. If you like Tamiya paints, but don't like the look of the colour you have, I would just add other colours (like buff) until you have something that looks "right." I don't think you have to be too precise with it, though.

Personally I had always used the XF-61 not on Tamiya's recommendation, but on the recommendation of other modelers. It may not look quite right in the bottle or when first applied, but after weathering it looks good to me.

Hi Jeff,
Picked a formula up from an Armorama link. All Tamiya paints.
At a ratio of 10:2:1 10:XF58 2:XF2 1:XF3
Came out very, very well and matches the colour I have seen on an original paint job SU 76 in Bovington allowing for the scale effect.
It's very flat so if you are in the smaller scales I would suggest using gloss yellow instead of matt for depth. Have a look at my 1:8 T34-85 in On The Workshop.
Best wishes.
