Looks good so far. Only thing I see is the headlights should be clear, not amber. I don't have any more pics of this tank, but I believe there are some of it in Bob Burik's Thunder Run book.

What a great photo! Thanks for sharing it. I see some gaps in your model where parts come together. You may want to consider some puttying.

I assume Frenchy helped you out. Let me know. That photo is awesome. Will you be recreating the weathering? I believe this tank is also shown in one of the early OIF Concord books too.

Hey Gijs
Those tracks look great!! To bad the camera is not that good but I think you have accomplished your mission on the tracks.
Could you post some progress pics of the filled gaps and the changes you made after the comment you received??
Cheers Roel

Looking good so far ! In the top photo the tank has the tie down shackles mounted on the front and you used the tow hooks on your model. You have the shackles on the rear.

It looks great, from the pics that I see, I only really see one mistake, and you may have changed it already. That mistake is you have the CIPS panel attached to the exhaust deflector. It should not be there, the deflector should be further back on the bustle rack and athe CIPS panel should be where it is, just attached to the bustle rack itself. I can't see all the pics, but other than that one thing, you did a great job from what I can see

hi,
is the triangle part of the decals? If yes, DML did a great job with the decals... I´ve got an original pic of the tank from the "thunder run" book (concord publishing)...looks like it´s some kind of scatch... I would weather it too... maybe with some kind of a tan/kaki wash...

Mike, just to clarify. The CIP could be hung from the exhaust deflector. My co-author and at least one other 1-64 tank had this set up. It is just a matter of whatever space was available. The CIPS have straps. If you are just talking about ALL BOUT DA BONES then yes, the CIP would not be on the deflector. On this tank, the deflector is first, the jerrycan rack, then the CIP. One thing the DML kit does not have, as far as I know, that is common on 1-64 tanks is the 120mm mortar ammo can. These were attached (welded?) to one side of the jerrycan racks, including this tank. They were used for storage. Finally, on the side of the bustle rack a spare roadwheel. Another spare is carried in the usual spot in front of the loader.
Max also points out that the odd solid black triangle on the side of the tank is faded. It appears that the crew may have done a half assed job of trying to paint over it - I don't think it is a scratch.
This tank also has a small US flag on one of the antennas. And MILES tape around the front of the turret. There are also some other odds and ends to make this tank historically accurate, but all the above being said, it is still a matter of choice as to how far one ones to go...

Thats cool, just in 6 years of being a tanker, I've never seen it that way, If you need the exhaust deflector than the CIP panel is in the way, you have to take off the CIP panel to get to it, that just don't make since to me. I don't want to take anything away from Gijs or trun this into something its not (like an arguement), he did a great job, and I couldn't see the other pics that he had posted from work, and didn't want it to look messed up.
If you could however PM me a pic of it set up that way I would be greatful.

Looks Great!!
A couple of things. Black headlights are also acceptable(IR Lensed installed) and the Engine fire T handle should be red.
.
I picked up mine today and couldn't believe someone funally got it right.

Looks great so far. Only one question though. If this is supposed to be an Army Abrams, then how come it has the USMC-style snorkel mounting bracket on the engine exhaust (that square frame on the rear of the hull)?

Chris,
The deep water exhaust adapter on the grill door is not just a USMC item... Since the mid to late 90's that have been showing up on Army tanks also. Perhaps it is one of the HC (Heavy Common) varient of the M1A1 feature that have migrated to the earlier HA (Heavy Armor) tanks through the application of the various modifications to keep the tank current.
