Thanks

Wait, aren't we supposed to nitpick it based on the scans? We have to start complaining that they are doing the M2A1 and not the M3 or M3A1 because of some reason. What's wrong with you guys? There has to be some sort of error on the kit, perhaps too many rivets on the side or that the undercarriage is inaccurate?

Robin, could it be possible that this will be the first time that no one shreds a new release?

Actually, I thought I may have spotted something but I'll hold my tongue until the kit is actually out.:-)

Good news indeed! And I don't have nothing against it being M2 and not M3 mainly because I'm not sure what is the difference? Can someone please clarify this for me?
Thanks in advance

US Army M-3 Halftrack
The M-3 Halftrack was widely used by mounted units during World War II and afterwards. It was a slightly longer upgrade of the similar M2 halftrack with additional rear armor, a rear door, a winch and other changes. It carried twelve men (ten in the rear, and two in front) plus the driver and was armed with a single .30 cal. machine gun.
To distinguish the M3 from the M2 halftrack, note that the longer M3 body extends further beyond the tracks while the M2 body stops close to the end of the tracks. The M3 also has smaller headlights, mounted to the side of the engine compartment while the M2 lights are fender mounted.

Flakgunner gives a better run down of the differences, but my main visual identifier was the body length and lack of a rear door (not possible because of the machinne gun skate). The earlier M2 series more closely resembles the M3 White Scout car body than the later M3 series half track.

Maybe that's already one of the decal options. :-)

Hi,
And, you don't have long to guess at that. It will go great with an Afrika Korps or Eastern Front diorama. This will be so cool.

HOLY COW!!!!
I have been waiting for this day for 20 years! I just knew someone would step up and make the US Halftrack series - I had heard that Skybow had initially started work on it - then I figured AFV Club would finish it off, but DML hits first.
I would love to see other companies take their shot - maybe an M21 or M3A1.
Great news -
This makes my day

Just fantastic news.
I can't wait to get my hands on this kit. I havn't ever been this excited for a kit. Now I know what everybody felt like that was waitng for the DML Tiger kits to be released.
Hope this spawns a whole range of these vehicles.

OMG! I am in heaven. I, for one, am glad they are starting out with the M2. My work bench will be cleared of all open projects and this will be top priority for me. I have waited a LONG time for this.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A few were used early, but the IDF prefered the M3-5-7-9 series with the longer body and rear door. They also cut the rear to add the doors for the M2s, but by 67 the M2 was rare. Many of the IDF early half tracks came from US dumps in the Phillipines and Italy and most were demilitarized (removal of everything except for the cab) and the IDF could put new fighting compartments or make specialized vehicles out of them.

This truly is a prayer being answered. I need to save up money for this. That picture of half-track next to M4A3E8 Thunderbolt is also hinting something else coming?
