ok then these are some pics of my vehicle that will be the main character in my DSB contest dio. As the insiders will know there has to be some pig related in it.
I first give you a short story that depicts the scene of my dio.
During the invasion in france the germans pull back fighting and a Hanomag gets stuck on the corner of a french farm site. the tracks ran of or it got hit by a shell.. still have to find that out. Right after it was hit it stopped next to a very young tree. The German crew left the vehicle and ran for their lives and the vehicle stood where it stopped.............
Now imagine this french farmsite 20 or even 30 years later. As we walk around we discover something in a dark corner of the farmstead. Under a big tree there are the remains of a vehicle that stood there for a long time. As we move closer by we see that it are the remains of a SDkfz 251 Hanomag That is rusted up to the bone. The owner of the farmstead have ripped everything that was usefull off and left the remaining parts as a huge karkhas where it was since ww2. He also put some planks over the rear deck and a big tent cloth two "boarding planks"are sticking out of the back where the two doors are missing. And in a diameter of a couple of meters there is a pool of mud created by the darkness and the moisture that came from the tree rotting leaves everywhere some small pool of water with leaves in the tenth cloth and go on.
And now I start to sound really like Bob Ross......... .Next to the vehicle are three very happy pigs rolling around in the mud taking no notice of what happens around them they have their lovely home and their mud they are satisfied.
Ok enough painting with words back to the progress pics.
here are the pigs..... Pics :-)
I know I have still a lot to do on it but this is just a nice impression of what the endresult will be.
if you guys have built a vehicle that is just as rusty as mine is going to be please give me some tips and tricks or do`s and don`t and anybody that has a good idea please post

Very nice work. You are well on your way to a killer diroama.
Here is more of a question rather than critique - Would the seam along the edge where the crew compartment is on the back edge be that 'open' and or smooth?

Hi guys
Thanks for all the good comments. But I all want you to know that this is the progress of only 1 hour work. And off course there will be more updates in the future.
Steve to answer your question first. Sorry that I posted them before the contest started. but as I`m waiting for my new AB Nozzle to arrive I was quite bored because I couldn`t do anything else. So I already started on the vehicle. I was so satisfied with the result of really one hour work that I immediately took pics of it. And I posted them without waiting for your PM to get some critics on what things i have to take care for or look for.
Steffen: I know, I know that was a lovely vehicle and it`s a shame that they left it there on that farmstead for 20 or 30 years they don`t start to look good after standing so long in the rain and other bad weather :-) :-)
I`ll tell you the story of the kit. I purchased the kit a couple of years ago and I wasn`t a really serious modeler that days and I really screwed it up. I took it out of each other and it was in a closet for a long time with the promise that I would restore it in it`s original Beauty but now I`m even going to make it worse than it was :-) :-) Modelers are strange people
Scott: As this was only the result of one hour work and it came out so good (actually above all expectations I quickly glued everything together just for the picture so I could give you an idea of what the final result will be that`s why some of the seams are really big. But as I write this post the vehicle is already laying in pieces on the workbench for some more extreme dremeling
This was it any more questions?? Just Ask

Faust,
Hey, the halftrack looks like a piece of used metal. What are you going to do to rust it? Have you ever tried the "Rust All"?
Can't wait to see it finished with the piggies around.

Well Squid
that`s a thing that I actually wanted to ask. What are the best things to make realistic looking rust. I like to hear about people who done it theirselfes to products that simulate the rust effect.
The Rust I want to create has to be the rust with the very rough surface (like there was sand glued all over it.) The kinda rust where you get dirty from just by looking at it
Anyone that has some info or tips please tell me

Hola!
For the rust why don't you use real rust? Take a metal can, score lines all over the bottom of it and put some water in it, not too much as it takes forever to create good rust. After a few days it should be rusted enough, but let it sit until the water is gone, and you will have a nice layer of rust, apply like you do pastels.

Is that a good way to get that very gritty rust. (very rough surface) Are there pics that show the results of that method I really like to know
Anyone else who have a good suggestion about rust please let me know

Faust,
Davidus (aSS-74) has told me to use oil color powder to simulate rusty surface. The method is like this: brush white spirits or turpentie on the surface, then brush the oil color powder on it. It looks real rough rusty surface.
Hope this helps.

Thanks again for the replies everybody
Steve (octupus) Could you tell me more about the Oil Color powder. Because I don`t know where i can refer it to here in Europe
I was thinking about the rough rust thingy today And I thought this out:
First paint a base layer ( a very dark color) over the still wet paint you sprinkle some plaster like powder. wait till the complete vehicle is dry. Then paint/spray/wash the whole vehicle in all different types of brown red brown reddish you know
Is there somebody who used this technique for example Exhaust pipes and stuff
Let me know what you think of the idea...
And steve I like to get some info from you

This is what I use:

It gives that gritty rust look. And is actual rust so it looks real.

Faust,
I can recommend two techniques. The first is the real rust method, iron nails roughed up with steel wool and immersed in a little water.
Secondly RUSTALL, this will provide you with the rough rust you are after.
Use your search engine and type RUSTALL
http://www.rustall.com
If you have any problems, I will provide you with a shop in Europe that sells this item.
PM me if you need.
