Hi all
As im building a bit of a "what if" diorama that is acted out in a fictional 1970´s Berlin where the East Germans invade West Berlin.
The dio is suposed to be set at the check opint charlie where a t-72 from the East German Army bolts straight through and over checkpoint charlie whit a few GDR soldiers running behind it and a couple of U.S GI´s runs for their lives.
Although i havent been able to find any U.S GI 1:35 scale soldiers from the 70´s ( Vietnam GI´s is a no-no) nore any GDR soldiers.
Any help on this matter on where i can find these models would be a great help indeed.
Cheers /
Chris

Hey Warsawpact,
ICM make a of set of Cold War East German figure sets, motorized infantry I think. You could also use modified WWII German figures as the uniform, with the exception of the insignia and helmet were very similar to the WWII German uniform.
As far as the GI uniform goes......I was a soldier in Germany from 79-82. I was still wearing the Viet-nam Era green fatigue/baseball cap uniform when I arrived in Germany in 1979. We didn't get Battle Dress Uniforms (BDU) until1981 or 1982.
Any figures you can find wearing the non-camo green fatigue uniform would fit....if you want to place your diorama the early to mid 80's (still at the height of the cold war) you could use figures dressed in BDUs and, correct me if I'm wrong you other cold war vets out there, the new Kevlar helmet. I believe the Berlin Brigade wore the same uniform as the rest of us sstationed in West Germany.
I am VERY glad the scenario you are depicting NEVER happened!
Have a great one! Hope this helps.

The ICM/Alanger set is the only kit available in styrene of East German soldiers, though none of them are doing anything very active. Still, you could adapt the helmets and weapons to other, more suitable figures. For US troops in fatigue uniforms, the only sets that come to mind are Tamiya's US command set (also included with the M577 command vehicle), and the 106mm mortar set. Nobody in very active poses, though. The Vietnam utilities were sometimes seen into the 1970's, though--these have the characteristic slanted jacket pockets.
