Could someone tell me what the appropriate distance should be (in inches or cm) between the rails on a train track? I would like to scratch build section of a track in 1:35 scale but have no reference measurements.
Thanks

Hi,
In Europe it will depend of the country and place, because there are the standard rail but at some places in the country there are some diferent local ones.
For instance at WWII France and Germany have the same size but USSR is diferent, Portugal and Spain has the same but diferent from France.
So, it's best if you ask for a particular country or place to have an accurate info.

marty, i am a history major, and i hate math so you might want to get some one else to figure this out for you. but it might be 1.614in in 1/35 scale. If you want some random stupid knowledge about rails, read this short article.

Matrix,
The english firm called PECO does feature loose rails for scale 1, which is 1:32. these rails are the roundhead-flat base typeand approx 90cm long. They also have fixtures (though these are English) for the rails to the beams. Maybe this is of some help to you?
Grtz

Hi Matrix,
No I would not do that if I were you. O scale is approximately 1:43 (H0 which means half-0= 1:87). The difference in scale would be noticeble, because there's a big schange that your rolling stock would not sit squarely on the rails. I would go for scale 1. Better still, I AM going for scale one, as the rails include with the VLS railway station is dreadfull to clean and the distance btween the ties and sleepers does not correspond. I will therefore replace the rails with metal Peco rails.
